Bastien Keb - Beat Without A Heart

Download: https://bastienkeb.bandcamp.com/ All instruments and vocals by Bastien Keb. Taken from the album 'Dinking in the Shadows of Zizou', out now on OHM. Bastien Keb is a prodigiously talented multi-instrumentalist. A guitarist first and foremost, you’ll hear him play trumpet, bass, drums, flute and more on this debut record, as well as layering his voice to strangely moving effect. His music belies a love for Curtis Mayfield and Sun Ra, though his voice might suggest Bon Iver - a world away, but here it makes perfect sense. He channels 80s soul with his bass, the New Orleans of The Meters with his drums. He looks to Broadcast and Flying Lotus for direction: how do you assimilate such diverse influences, and come up with something wholly modern, and wholly your own?

Mo Kolours - Banana Wine

Download Mo Kolours - EP2: Banana Wine for free here: http://mokolours.bandcamp.com/album/ep2-banana-wine EP teaser video:: http://youtu.be/dlaN1Fq6b1A Half-Mauritian singer-percussionist Mo Kolours returns with his second release: EP2: Banana Wine. Last year’s EP1: Drum Talking saw his blend of soul, dub and various electronic styles with the Sega music of his ancestral home celebrated far and wide, peaking with a live session at the BBC’s legendary Maida Vale studios for Radio 1 – and all before he’d played a single live show. As the UK’s FACT Magazine remarked, “The wonderful Mo Kolours laces his loping, hashed-out Madlib-meets-Theo Parrish beat confections with melodies from the folk music of his homeland”, and while those Mauritian influences still give Mo Kolours’ work an otherworldly feel, EP2: Banana Wine is more evocative of the his current home in South London than his debut release. EP2: Banana Wine is the second in a trilogy of Mo Kolours EPs to be released by One-Handed Music, the increasingly renowned label behind releases from Bullion, Paul White and others. The first EP found favour with the likes of Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, Gilles Peterson, Rob Da Bank, LA’s influential KCRW radio station, and many more. Mo Kolours performs as part of Paul White’s live band and will be bringing his new one-man live show to the stage this spring. Release: 19 March 2012. Cat # HAND12010.

OHM Dedication Series #4: Mr. Beatnick presents Sun Ra

The OHM Dedication Series is designed to allow some of our favourite DJs to share their love of a particular artist, producer or songwriter with you. #4 is from Mr. Beatnick who is one of OHM's oldest friends, a man who was playing Paul White beats before our first 7" release in 2007. Mr. Beatnick has gone on to establish himself as one of the most interesting and talented producers working in hip hop, house music and more as his excellent recent 'Synthetes' EP for Don't Be Afraid demonstrated. For his dedication he picked one of the musical giants of our world, and many other worlds besides: Sun Ra. Mr. Beatnick says: "Struck by the enormity of the cosmic task at hand, I ended up with snapshots from a range of Ra's work. You have the ballads, the standards, the poetry and the freak-outs all balanced in harmony, just as it was in a typical Arkestra performance, darkness counterpointed with bursts of bright frenetic energy. A lot of focus is on the 70s, partly cause that was a prolific and funky time for the band, partly just cause it's my favourite period. I wish I could have made it 12 hours long and got in all the tracks I wanted to, and the mix wouldn't have been possible without Kirk DeGiorgio and Max Cole who put me on to a ton of these tracks, so this is dedicated to them with astral thanks. There are other worlds they have not told you of, that wish to speak to you." Read his "The Essential Sun Ra" feature for FACT here: http://bit.ly/Qadsdz Thanks once again to Emily Evans for the brilliant artwork. Paul White - Street Lights ft. Danny Brown

Taken from the 'Watch The Ants' EP, out on July 29th on One-Handed Music. Buy it digitally from: iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/watch-the-ants/id650216331 Bandcamp: http://goo.gl/mQpZa Paul White and Danny Brown seem an unlikely pair: the enigmatic English producer with a penchant for psych- and prog-rock, and the eccentric Detroit rap star whose gleeful tales of sex- and drug-fuelled exploits have been met with massive acclaim. But three tracks together on Brown’s breakthrough XXX (Pitchfork Top 20 Albums of 2011) and one on Rapping With Paul White helped establish their producer-MC relationship as one of the finest in hip-hop today. The rapper cites him as “my fav producer to work with” and 'Street Lights' might be their best work together yet. In 'Street Lights', Paul White ratchets up the tension as his pounding war drums, strings and a spectral choir back Danny Brown’s typically vivid portrait of a Detroit blighted by poverty and neglect, the lyrics peppered with a healthy mix of old-fashioned bragging and flashes of nostalgia. 'Street Lights' – and its incredible animated video by London production team Plastic Horse – also serves as a teaser for Danny Brown’s forthcoming album Old, which includes a number of Paul White-produced tracks. This summer will also see the release of Paul White’s 'Watch The Ants' EP on OHM, along with various other solo projects, remixes and production work for the likes of Homeboy Sandman, Trim, Charli XCX and more.

OHM Dedication Series #2: JD Twitch presents Adrian Sherwood

The OHM Dedication Series is designed to allow some of our favourite DJs to share their love of a particular artist, producer or songwriter with you. We're very pleased to offer you #2: JD Twitch presents Adrian Sherwood. As one half of Optimo, JD Twitch is amongst the most respected DJs in the UK and his free-spirited genre-hopping approach makes him one of our favourites too. Here he presents a 90 minute mix dedicated to Adrian Sherwood, the British dub legend famed for his work with Lee Perry, Prince Far-I and more, who also explored industrial and post-punk sounds via his incredible On-U Sound label. JD Twitch says it best: "For my ears, Adrian Sherwood is the most sonically innovative producer the UK has ever given birth to. If you don't know anything about Mr. Sherwood or his ON U Sound label, either do a bit of Googling, have a listen to this mix or read this interview I was fortunate enough to conduct a couple of months ago (when he was in Glasgow) that is on the Racket Racket website - http://racketracket.co.uk/music/jd-twitch-meets-adrian-sherwood/ In my late teens and early 20s, Adrian Sherwood's work impacted on me more than anything I had previously heard and made me think about sonic possibilities in a completely new way. I would buy any record he had been involved with unheard and got into a lot of other artists purely because he had been involved with making their records. Indeed, my nom de plume "Twitch" came from a record he produced and our Optimo slogan "We Love Your Ears" came from the sleeve of a record he remixed. I hadn't listened to a lot of these records for many, many years and fell in love with them all over again while putting this together. It was a complete labour of love to do and a revelation to hear how fresh and wild this music still sounds." This mix is the first half of a three hour mix by JD Twitch. This half "focuses on his more electronic wild side (Tackhead, Fats Comet, Keith LeBlanc etc.)" while the second half is dedicated to his dub work with the likes of Creation Rebel. TightFace - Treasures Of The Five Boroughs

TightFace: one of London's best-kept secrets. Turning out killer beat-tape after killer beat-tape, the South Londoner is a long-time ally of Paul White and the OHM crew (not least Mo Kolours, his brother). Treasures Of The Five Boroughs is TightFace's tribute to New York rap, matching his electric funk and soulful strut to vocals from the likes of Ghostface, Nas, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, Biggie, and many more. It's also the perfect showcase for one of the most promising beatmakers around.
