I have been playing music and singing for as long as I can remember. At the age of 12 I dug my dad's old theory books out from the back of a closet and claimed his old Fender as my own. I began writing songs as soon as I had mastered C, F & G. Music fell to the wayside a bit for me for a while in my late teens and early 20's when I moved across the country to Alberta...I wish back then I had realized what a wonderful and vibrant music community Edmonton has and dived in but I didn't. I felt quite cultural shocked and out of my element leaving Newfoundland for the first time and was still fairly shy about any originals I had written. I also lacked the confidence needed to do live performances even though every single part of me wanted to. A few years back I started doing some open stages here and there and it was like a drug...if gave me a complete & happy feeling that I had never felt before...to share what I had written with others...I knew then it was what I was meant to do. Then something exploded in me as I sat in the audience at the Edmonton Folk music festival three years back. I was listening to the beautiful Brandi Carlile sing and when she was finished she said to the audience that to anyone out there who has a passion for music to never give up on their dreams to share their music with others...that just a couple years earlier she was the one sitting in the audience. Her words touched my heart. So...here I am...determined and not giving up on my dream to be on that stage someday :) I sincerely hope you enjoy what you hear...I can't wait to get more of what's currently in my head and on paper recorded so I can keep sharing and if you share that same passion...then go do the same! http://www.theoceandreamer.ca Tune in again to BalconyTV //

Subscribe to us right now at http://bit.ly/15yj4oc 'Like' us on Facebook - http://Facebook.com/balconytv Follow us on Twitter - http://Twitter.com/balconytv PRESENTED BY KATIE WARNER Ali Holder's new record was written in the stars. In Preparation for Saturn's Return is titled after an astrological event in which the planet Saturn completes one full orbit around the sun and returns to the same point in the sky that it occupied at the moment of a person's birth. This occurrence, which happens in 27-30 year intervals, is said to usher a person into the next stage of his or her life. Holder, who turns 27 this year and graduates from the University of Texas at Austin with an M.A. in Art Education, has composed a deeply personal collection of songs about her Saturn's return cycle and her transition into adulthood. Holder, a Texas native who began playing as a solo artist at age 16, sings with the controlled power of Brandi Carlile and the emotiveness of Patty Griffin. She counts a number of diverse performers—including Kris Kristofferson and Florence and The Machine—among her musical influences; her wide-ranging tastes have been reflected in her work, from her current Americana/folk output to Stuck in Red, the R&B album she released with The Raindoggs in 2011. In Preparation for Saturn's Return is a stunning solo debut, incorporating traces of blues and R&B into her folk-based sound. "I always have a rotating band, so I never seem to know what magical combination will be made out of joining together different people," explains Holder, who plays ukulele on the record and guitar at her live shows. Here, she's backed by a stellar collection of musicians, including Adam Ray, who contributes jazzy trumpet to album closer "Falling Up," a song which gets its name from a Shel Silverstein work, and guitarist Daniel Thomas Phipps, who trades vocals with Holder on "I Saw a Wolf," an eerie duet about the pursuit of love. Country-influenced tracks like the cheating ballad "Drinking Double" feature the crying steel guitar of Jeremy Menking, which serves as a gorgeous backdrop for Holder's smoky alto. The making of Saturn was an experience Holder describes as "summer camp for grownups." Produced with several members of her band as well as engineer Andrew Ratcliffe, the album is not only an intimate remembrance of her past, but also a sign of her promising musical future. As she prepares for her album release, graduate school graduation, and summer tours that will take her to both coasts, Ali Holder awaits her forthcoming Saturn's return with a sense of optimism. "I'm ready to take all these songs that represent different pieces of my life with me into my next stage." http://www.aliholder.com CREDITS / SPONSORS Audio and video production by Capital Media Corp. Richards was born March 7, 1982 in Hudson, Wisconsin and at the age of nine, moved to Madison, Connecticut, where she was raised on her father's music junkie flare and mother's vintage record taste. She attended the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, Connecticut. From there, Richards returned to the Midwest on a scholarship to study scores and compositions at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. In 2005, she graduated with a major in Music Education and an emphasis on vocals. Taking inspiration from artists as diverse as mainstream acts like the Dixie Chicks, Miranda Lambert, and Bonnie Raitt to alternative singer-songwriters Ryan Adams, Brandi Carlile, Patty Griffin, and David Wilcox, Richards has crafted a debut cache of self-penned tunes that show off her talent not only as a vocalist but also as lyricist. In 2010, she released "Ruby Red Shoes," a full length disc produced by Henry Paul (BlackHawk / The Outlaws) capturing the fragrant nuance that marks Richards' artistry and on-stage talent. The breadth of Richards' personal and professional life infuses a positive spirit, yet fierce intellect. Her music showcases one who is not afraid to be a real sinner and a quiet saint. Today, she continues to embrace her growing fan base at a directory of honky-tonks, watering holes and music venues across the country. Her homemade success earns endless recognition as it comes alive without the benefits of a recording contract or publishing deal, but has stemmed solely from Richards' pure passion for song and voice. Subscribe to us right now at http://bit.ly/15yj4oc 'Like' us on Facebook - http://Facebook.com/balconytv Follow us on Twitter - http://Twitter.com/balconytv PRESENTED BY CASS WALKER Singer-songwriter Kirsty Akers has been making an impact in her native Australia for the past eight years. Hailed as a remarkable talent by fellow artists, musicians, media and stalwarts of the music industry, Kirsty is fearless and brutally honest with a penchant for taking her songs to places others fear to tread. Kirsty's third album, 'Naked' was produced by Paul Greene (Hirst & Greene, Spy Vs Spy) and Matt Fell (Josh Pyke, Brooke Fraser, Tim Freedman, CMAA Producer of The Year) and recorded over a six month period in Sydney and on the south coast of New South Wales. While the album's cover features a striking image of Kirsty nude against a mystical forest- like setting (designed by Steve Parke whose credits include Prince, Victor Wooten & the TV show 'Heroes') its more than just a cheap gimmick. "Going out independent for the first time I kind of feel a little "Naked" in front of the world. The songs, production, decisions are all mine so if it goes wrong I don't have anyone else to blame it on. I think the title "Naked" describes exactly how I feel revealing the real 'me' as an artist to the world! I've put my heart and soul into this album, I even sold my house to pay for it so hopefully everything pays off and I can look back and say "it was worth it". Influenced equally by contemporary acts such as Mumford & Sons and Brandi Carlile as she is by the traditional country sounds of Dolly Parton, Buddy & Julie Miller and Hank Williams that were played around the family home during her formative years, Kirsty is a sublime mix of old meets new, youth meets tradition. My ears pricked and it was like something awoke in my heart. I was 15 then and overwhelmed with the pursuit of academics. I loved words and books and I was going to be the first person in my immediate family to apply to college. Teaching myself to play guitar helped me get outside of a world of essays and was a huge stress reliever. What followed from this was an intense love of singing and songwriting. I wrote songs about characters in the books I was reading. I wrote about the real situations of our lives, the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly, all the contrast we are so well acquainted with in this world. I wrote and still write about these tensions. Always trying to find the uniting and hopeful story of humanity between the notes and lines. This love for songwriting led me to Portland, Oregon to work with Grammy-award winning producer Clif Magness in a gap year between high school and college. He produced artists I loved as a kid, like Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson. Since then I’ve worked with producers, such as, Cason Cooley, Nathan Chapman and Kevin Kadish. To work with each of these wonderful people has been such an honor and a dream come true. In the Fall of 2014, I began college at Harvard University. I continued to write songs about what I was learning in school and began touring monthly. Over the last three years, I’ve opened for artists such as Alanis Morissette, Brandi Carlile, Grace Potter, O.A.R, Allen Stone, Parachute and more. Live music, getting to play in front of eager ears, is the thing that keeps me going. I live for live music. http://brynnelliott.com CREDITS / SPONSORS Producer//Audio//Camera: John Taylor Nelson Production// Lake City Sounds https://www.lakecitysounds.com Tune in again to BalconyTV //
