Welcome to the Thirty-Fourth Instalment for PuzzleProjectsMusic & debut (Vinyl-Only) mix for the PuzzleProjectsMusic family mixed by Shane Daly AKA @shaned-1 who is based & groovin’ in Dingle, Kerry - Ireland.
Since I really started getting into the page seriously back in July time, I wanted to drive it in different directions in terms of the mix genres being released. I came across Shane a few months back while doing my daily #groovehunt - searching out new mixes and artists to connect with and his most recent set he had posted really caught my ear, I kept going back to his mix every day for a few days then had to reach out, we have exchanged many long conversations over recent months about everything from vinyl, vegan food, health & being authentic and straight up. As with Gavin AKA @Gamadon, he is a top dude and a proper DJ, swearing to play & deliver a mix using no software and instead just two turntables & a mixer.
Onto the mix;
He kicks things off with a superb release on Nuphonic Records - ‘Film Flam’ by Yellow Sox. It’s a sick, pitched down, hazy, hypnotic & dreamy track.
14.53 mins and & Shane teases in the jittery, acid-house tinged ‘Dark matter’ by Bell & Everything which I am proper loving.
Another killer moment & my personal favourite track in the mix comes in at 38.27 mins, I could feel something naughty was crushing in. The twisty drowned out vocal ’Disco’……….’Disco’ ………….’Disco’ - filth! It’s an unknown artist but the track name is ‘Pete’ released on Florence Records 004, Layered under some awesome effects and dark distorted mumbles is a groovy, chunky swinging dead filthy groove that just growls when the base turns up.
Thinking the mix is going to stay deep, the mix then shoots off in a completely different direction with the upbeat record ‘Get on ya feet’ - an awesome, textbook, trademark funky, groovy funk tinged disco style that Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee have delivered so well over the years.
Then follows a dose of the legendary Dimitri From Paris & his track ‘Don’t you feel the same’. This then follows with the thumping LoYoTo track ‘Karmadog’ released on Foul & Sunk Records
An onslaught of classic 4/4 beat deep house records follow from artists like ‘Suena Hermosa’ ‘Gorge & Homm’ & ‘Sebo K’ before the set finishes on Vince Watson’s Ibiza style euphoric ‘Another Rendezvous’
What I really like about Shane is he pitches down a lot of the tracks in the mix which I feel works really well, it allows the listener to be draw into a lot of the tracks and go on more of a journey with it rather than it just being full on in your face! Simple but clever & effective DJing.
Shane has a really defined style that respects the classics but embraces records from recent years.
What is cool is how he merges them together but at times keeps this gritty, early-morning vibe reminiscent from one of the many sets I heard at one of the many special special nights at the sadly extinct, legendary Turnmill's club in Farringdon, London, UK.
Thank you Shane mate. Hope to see you in Ireland in 2019 to share some food & records.
