6. S.P.Y - Alone In The Dark

S.P.Y - Alone In The Dark

Download/Vinyl/Stream at: hospitalrecords.lnk.to/AloneInTheDarkEP1so S.P.Y has been deep in his Bristol-based lab riling up a storm since the release of his killer double album ‘Back To Basics: Chapters 1+2’. His hard-drives are overflowing with sketches and scores, now he's ready to rise from the shadows with a three-part drum & bass blast - ‘Alone In The Dark’. EP:1 brings two distinct shades. Opener ‘Keep On Searching’ rolls deep with a signature S.P.Y bassline moving slowly across sultry vocal fragments. ‘Unlimited Love’ brings uplifting summer warmth with an inviting male vocal lead, set and ready for festival season. A ragga vocal throws back to jungle roots in ‘Soldier’, this alongside ‘Black Ops’ makes two surefire weapons for recruiting the early morning D+B troops. Title track ‘Alone In The Dark’ is a definitive room-filler bringing weighty bass, punchy percussions and a menacing synthline, assassinating anyone in his path. A man entirely dedicated to his craft, S.P.Y represents leading D+B imprint Hospital Records pushing the depths of the underground sounds with class and consistency. Already support has streamed in from the scene’s best, including worldwide drum & bass executioner and Beats1 resident Andy C. He's quickly become the go-to man for hard hitting dancefloor remixes; Sigma, Karen Harding, KDA & Tinashe, Rag & Bone Man, Maverick Sabre & more. Bcee - Back To The Streets (S.P.Y Remix) [clip]

Buy Here: S.P.Y.lnk.to/HospitalMixtapeso Our artist led Hospital Mixtape series continues! Over the years, S.P.Y has become one of the most well-respected producers and DJs in the game with an astute ear for the crispest, deepest and darkest drum & bass. T S.P.Y’s sets are consistently crammed with the highest quality selections, which hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2015 he was chosen to present the prestigious BBC Radio 1 Essential mix for Pete Tong and subsequently joined Annie Mac at her BBC Radio 1 stage at Glastonbury Festival. A DJ in high demand, S.P.Y has spent the last year touring the globe from USA to Canada, Australia to New Zealand. Last summer he took to the stage at Bestival, Sun & Bass, EDC and Tomorrow World! Yet around his crowded schedule he’s found the time to delve deep in his record box and pull together 31 standout tracks of the moment. He’s got his hands dirty getting hold of 15 previously unreleased tracks from the likes of Logistics, Dub Elements, Anile, Whiney and Random Movement. His hard work continues with three brand new S.P.Y productions ‘Take Control’, ‘Second Encounter’ and ‘Silent Wave’. He’s given a helping hand to brother Unreal featuring on his fire-fuelled track ‘Enduro’ and a got his head down to produce a Jungle VIP of BCee’s – ‘Back To The Street’. S.P.Y’s been in hot demand for his remixing skills in the past year with his (Not So Glittery) Sigma remix hitting the BBC Radio 1Xtra playlist for a huge six weeks running. He’s done it again with four fresh reworks of: TC – ‘Rep’ ft Jakes, London Elektricity – ‘Why Are We Here?’, Fred V & Grafix – ‘Ultraviolet’ and and Digital – ‘Deadline’. Hidden amidst the track-list is an amen-break laced gem from Med School’s Etherwood, he’s taken on S.P.Y’s epic ‘What The Future Holds’. This year's edition of the Hospital Mixtape tears out in true S.P.Y fashion, a midnight ride of filthy switch-ups and flawless transitions; one for the warehouse warriors.

Logistics - Lost In U (feat. McLean) [clip]

As one of the pioneers of the signature Hospital Records sound Logistics already has an impressive succession of albums, EPs, collaborations and remixes in his repertoire. Fortunately for us he’s adding one more to the list with his incredible sixth studio album, ‘Electric Sun’ filled with jungle flavoured rollers, garage-inspired chop-ups, down tempo head-nodders, swirling synths and merciless subs. Settle inside paradise with 'Icarus' - featuring fellow Cambridge connoisseur Hugh Hardie - along with 'After Dark' they provide a warm, anthemic wash throughout the LP that contrasts with the equally ethereal yet hypnotic slow dance of 'Still Life', featuring Holly Drummond. The refined style in 'Tell Me True' proves simplicity really is key; rippling piano and gentle guitar plucks come together to create a first-class future classic. Switch the tempo! Logistics takes a different direction with 'Fight 4 U' and 'Deep Breath' relaxing the rhythms with strong subs and choppy, pitched vocals aplenty. Closing the LP is a collaboration with rising vocalist Zara Kershaw, whose soulful and sophisticated sound perfectly compliments Logistics’ style in 'Finish Line'. He’s also succeeded in syncing vocalists Sherry Davis, McLean and Stella Attar with his melodic, liquid D+B vibrations in 'Cold Light of Day', 'Lost In U' and 'Take Me to Another World'.

Hospital Shop: http://hospi.tl/17fjm iTunes: http://hospi.tl/39fjm Google Play: http://hospi.tl/57fjm For the second chapter of our ‘Fast Music’ series we take a journey through the sounds of jungle. From the 19-year Hospital Records and Med School back catalogue we draw from the core, proving just how deep the roots go in drum & bass of past and present. With influences of breakbeat, dub and reggae, jungle is at the foundation of some of Hospital’s most prominent dance-floor prowlers. In over 46 tracks, Nu:Tone keeps the energy high, moving through the vocal chop-ups of Logistics and Danny Byrd, the deep basslines of S.P.Y and Total Science and right through to the broken beats of A-Sides and Krakota. Not to mention the likes of Calibre, Commix, Icicle, D*Minds and Detail also inspired by the drum & bass origin, bringing the junglist hype right to the forefront. This time round the carnival horns are calling, the elastic bass-lines drawing and there's a full return of the reverb. Get ready for the rumble of “Fast Jungle Music”.

The Future Sound Of Canada - Promo Mix (Mixed By Mr Brown)

Buy & Stream Here: https://HospitalRecords.lnk.to/FSOCso Hidden under Canada’s ice-cold slopes is a core community of producers, DJs, fans and followers, all playing an essential role in supporting and growing Canada’s eclectic underground mountain of drum & bass. In ‘The Future Sound of Canada’ EP the Hospital Records team draw out its key players to keep an eye on, adding six tracks from Schematic, Polaris, Gremlinz and Levrige to their worldwide series. Leading the EP are two serious solo artists who’s combined discography boasts releases on Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s imprint Technique Recordings and Toronto-based Inner City Dance. As an equally powerful production pairing, Schematic & Polaris have delivered ‘Conduit’ to the EP - a serene trip through deep, melodic drum & bass. Also take notice of their equally special solo offerings: Polaris’ ‘The Light In Your Eyes’ and Schematic’s hypnotic ‘Learn From The Past’ featuring Victor Davies. Gremlinz - another Toronto talent - switches the EP from ethereal liquid to solid sonic sound waves with ‘Tactical Rail’, matching raw and rapid old-skool drum work with sinister siren calls. Then we come to the Levrige duo, a new project started by valiant Vancouver titans J.F.Killah and Erski who’ve brought an intriguing futuristic jungle, half time style to the mix with ‘The Legend’. Simplistic keys paired with complex percussions finishes up the EP in Stranjah’s ‘Gideon’. The 2016 revival of the ‘Future Sound of’ series draws to a close after connecting a multitude of drum & bass talent from America, Brazil, Holland and now Canada. All four fresh EPs are a triumph in the discovery of the next generation of producers and only further prove the unstoppable global reach of the genre, all spearheaded by its leading independent label, Hospital Records.
