Our stateside homie Eddie Light is an all around badman of breaks and bass music. A friend to all and someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is the A&R for Punks Music as well the Armory Podcast. He is always in search of the perfect beats, and that shows in his outstanding mixes. We are happy to have him on board for the third installment of the CakesCast.

Hot Cakes is some Southern Rock. Imagine two old men at a bar, talking about women, and all kinds of women. Everyone can hear them ranting, but no one interrupts or is aggressed. They all want to hear what the old creeps have to say about those hot cakes. Its a song influenced by desire. Questions to the limp lover. A planet, dark in the sky, are they still alive?

The legend that is Deekline has commissioned some of the hottest talent in the UK to bring one of the biggest remix packages you're likely to see in 2018. Back in the late 90s, “Don’t Smoke” was the tune on every UK garage DJ’s turntables, as the sound of two-step took the British underground by storm. So popular was the track that it even made the UK top 20, with Deekline himself appearing on Top of the Pops for a famously shambolic appearance (if you don’t believe us, just Google it for megalols.)
We have six unreal remixes in total, covering every corner of the bass map. Leeds ruffians Vital Techniques have bring a melting pot of UKG flavours, twisting up the original with some serious creativity. Deadbeat goes in hard with trademark raw and rambunctious basslines that guarantee skanking action. DJ Spookz switches things up with a peak time mover, blending dark bass motifs whilst making serious use of Deekline’s original riffage. Lucent plumps for a UK Funky/ UK Bass hybrid with swinging drums, crunchy basslines and heavy wobs. Up next Fish gets all wavey in the dance, killing it with some wonky synth action over a slice of 4/4 house. Finally Majora finishes things off perfectly with a UK Funky number, some serious production going down from this guy at the momento.

Pyramid returns to Hot Cakes packing some serious heat. First up, the boys get the fire burning with 'Stick Up', a track that's heavy on the beats. A thick, relentless drum line beats through the speakers as Ivory and Rubi Dan lay down the flow. The synth line cuts straight through, layering just the right amount of funk and filth to keep that bass face nasty. Following up with 'Only You' in classic Pyramid fashion, getting things started with a sweet sounding vocal, and a colossal chunky breakdown you won't be ready for the bassbin annihilation that happens when the bassline hits. This what Pyramid does best, rich and full bassline business and beat smacking breaks.
