My fourth year of doing holiday music videos for YouTube is here. Although I am getting over a cold, I didn't want to break tradition.
This year, I decided to do a swing version of Jingle Bells. My original vision for this tune was big-band (with rock instruments since I dont play horns...). As my rock instincts took over during jamming/practicing, it became more of a "rock n roll meets swing meets alternative/punk." At any rate, I was happy with the outcome, especially the drums. They might be a bit sloppy, but swing drums has always been a challenge for me.
Here you hear me playing on four tracks: guitar, bass, drums, vocals (oh, and that sleigh bell which was from the V-Drum sample library, added on as a separate track). Pardon my nazely vocals, I'm still getting over that aforementioned cold.
I recorded, mixed and mastered the audio using Audacity 1.3.
Fender American Standard Jazz Bass 2006
Fender American Standard Telecaster 2012
VOX VT120+ (for guitar)
Acoustic DSP G120 (for bass)
guitar and bass recorded using a Samson C01 studio condenser mic
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
Our sleighing song tonight
Hurt me! (borrowed from Eric Martin on "Addicted to that Rush")
We've been doing holiday tunes in the basement studio as long as the kids have been old enough to sing. Take a listen, enjoy, be in touch, and have a great holiday season! (This year's songs will be up in the weeks ahead, by the way.)
