2. Midnight Movements 2016

Midnight Movements 2016

I’d to share with you all this brand new version of my song ‘Midnight Movements’, which I recorded at home in December 2016. I wanted this version to reflect how I feel about my life now at the age of 32 (just before I turn 33 this weekend) and how good it feels to have grown into a place of certainty, happiness and fulfilment as a result of better life choices since the first version was written over 10 years ago. The feelings I have today almost certainly eluded the man/boy off 22 years old in the earlier version, so it feels great to highlight the passage of time with this bolder, updated version of the song. I’m very happy with the overall arrangement and also the intent behind the lyric, which I believe doesn’t hold back. As a result, these words are way less suggestive than the first version. Enjoy and keep an eye out for more new recordings coming soon. Nick x Lyrics Midnight Movements and waking hours My soul is open, forever yours A loving bed to keep you warm all year I touch her thighs, she moves me gently So deep inside her, I move to the rhythm of time As worlds cum to her eyes Give me your world, caress and take me On a weightless flight Inside these arms of 32 tonight If I fall or break my back, won’t be for love I lack For you are there and you can hear my distant cry Now there’s only the bride and groom, Lightness gleaming, melt away Into pureness, strange and seldom known If I could speak and find these words I need, It couldn’t be Only we can touch these birds That fly eternal, over a calm sea Give me your world, caress and take me, on a weightless flight Inside these arms of 32 tonight If I fall or break my back, won’t be for love I lack For I am there and I can hear your distant cry Every hour passes by, I’ve grown up to understand I will only live for you, you are music in my hands Music & lyrics by Nick Stephenson © 2016

7. Nick Stephenson - The Burning Bush

Nick Stephenson - The Burning Bush

#flashbackfriday 12 years ago, I wrote and recorded 'The Burning Bush' when George W Bush got re-elected as president. I thought it would be fitting to take a look back at this track after this week's findings that Blair and Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq was... Illegal. I'd like to pay my respects to the soldiers who died in that war and the millions of Iraqi people who have been killed or displaced during - or as a result of - that conflict. The Burning Bush was originally recorded for the 2005 E.P 'Frames' Nick Stephenson: Acoustic and electric guitars, vocals Bill Johnson: Bass guitar, Drum tracks, Keyboards Written by Nick Stephenson © 2004 Produced by Bill Johnson

9. ONE THING - NICK STEPHENSON

ONE THING - NICK STEPHENSON

‘One Thing’ was written in January 2014 after I dreamt up the chorus melody and lyrics one night. I excitedly got out of bed and quickly went downstairs to grab my guitar and mini disc player and proceeded to (pretty much) croak the majority of the song into that recording device, and later build upon what I had with the verses (‘leaning through the balcony’, ‘it couldn’t be the devil’ etc.) until I had a complete song. I felt at the time that it sounded quite ‘stadium rock’ and was slightly embarrassed at this, returning later to have another listen. On reflection, that is exactly the feel Zombies drummer Steve Rodford and I have gone for with this recording. And It feels absolutely right. ‘ONE THING’ also made it to the final of the Future Music NATIONAL SONGWRITING COMPETITION in June 2015 and was part of my Memory Tape Playlist for BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne in December 2015. 11. NICK STEPHENSON - SHAKING RAIN

NICK STEPHENSON - SHAKING RAIN

'Shaking Rain' was written in December 2014 and recorded in January 2016. It's a love song of great significance for me but also a story of personal growth. I wrote it after mucking about with a strange tuning (DEDF#AE) one day on my old Martin OMC. It's came very naturally and I improvised nearly the whole thing into my phone. I didn't do much refining on the song until I recorded it with Zombie's drummer Steve Rodford in January 2016. Steve suggested it was a little too short and that maybe I should add a verse? I agreed (as I also like a challenge) and wrote the last, very positive and upbeat verse ('now I can see you wearing sunshine') right there in the session. I'm very proud of this recording for many reasons. It is the first professionally recorded song for Kate (and she loves it - thank goodness!), it sounds HUGE and there is so much depth in the production which I must say, Steve labored over endlessly until he got it just right. I believe the song has passion, drama, romance, defiance, struggle and love and I hope you like it ;) Nick x Shaking Rain by Nick Stephenson © 2014 (Lyrics) I’d like to see you wearing sunshine Swinging on a tree of stars Walking through a magic doorway and feeling like the world is ours. Talking at a pace only we know Putting dark times to right Burying the bad reactions and the armour we used to fight. Chorus Holding hands Shaking rain Staying whole Floating away again x2 If I ever had to dig too deeply Wadding through a mud graveyard I wouldn’t trust people to save us and try to rescue what we have. Coz people got their own agendas, hang-ups and histories Projecting all their guarded feelings onto something only we believe. Now I can see you wearing sunshine Smiling with the kiss of stars We’ve learned to swim across this ocean Now we claim the worlds as ours

Ground Dust/ Legion of filth - Pins in my Zeppelin

Ground Dust lasted from 2004 - 2010 and comprised of myself, my brother Mark Stephenson and our mate Richard Groves. Joe Brooks and Simon Hadwin joined in 2005. Originally we were Legion of filth (a far better name in my opinion) and we made music like this. It's pretty loony to say the least... Tom Robinson of BBC Radio loved it. Enjoy.
