The Highwater Tapes is a collection of recordings by the Newcastle band Highwater, recorded in 1976. The group were active in the local music scene in the mid 1970s, a rock band featuring a horn section. Coming close to signing a record deal with EMI, these were the best tracks the band wrote and recorded at their peak. The original master reel-to-reel tapes were stored in an attic and have been transferred into a digital format to preserve them. Carl Michael Forster(Keys / Vocals)and George Irving (Bass / Vocals) are credited with writing the songs, with brass arrangements by band members, and on the track Sweet Darlin' by Rick Taylor.
This song is a personal one and close to my heart. It's about breaking free from the toxic things that weigh us down. It's about finding ones freedom. It tells a story of a young woman. An urban tale of sorts. I find bits of my story in her. You may too.
This single also marks the beginning of a journey towards publicly releasing my first body of original work, #BennettAve. Which will be available for digital purchase later this month!
I wanted to tell a story with this project. From the music to the artwork. So I sat down and brainstormed with my brother, fellow artist, Jeremiah Jae and commissioned him to create the artwork for this single and the album to follow.
Let the journey begin. Lend me your ears.
