While doing anthropological research Matthijs and Gigih decided to record a song and share it on SoundCloud.
Matthijs Steur and Gardika Gigih Pradipta met at the Anthropology department of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta in January 2014. A collabaration was born when Matthijs visited Gigih's house. At the 6th of March they will perform their first concert together. In the meantime, they will continue to make music together, which will hopefully lead to new songs.
I saw a woman in a blanket in a bus shelter one day. I tried to imagine how hard homelessness has gotta hit a person. Capitalism only makes it harder. You need to pay for a night at the Salvation Army, you'll never get a job until you look like a poster person, and you'll never be on your feet until you can help yourself up through a hierarchy.
I took a trip with my dad last summer to Sioux Narrows. I was listening to a whole lotta Tragically Hip and Gord Downie's Secret Path. we got off the highway just past Round Lake, where we saw the residential school children monument. I was like "woah. Canada's ugliest history happened right here." I wrote a song about it. this is the song.
