PREMIERE: Morphine - The Other Side (Unders Extended Remix) [Sol Selectas]

@undersmusic @solselectas Sol Selectas run by Sabo welcomes back Unders who has been a prominent feature in the label's back catalogue. Unders has also contributed to other imprints including Kindisch, Under Your Skin, Sincopat and Katermukke along with his own Happy Camper Records. Unders, is a producer from Holland, who had a break through song called “Syria” on Sol Selectas three years ago, and is a huge fan of the band Morphine, so he created this dance floor remix of their track “The Other Side” for his DJ sets. With the intention of keeping the original Morphine legacy alive along with the spirit of deceased lead singer Mark Sandman, the original members of the band have agreed to officially release this incredible remix, as every time Unders played it the reaction was incredible. Already rated by Mixmag as one of the hottest tracks of the Summer in 2017, even though it had never even been released, this special remix of an American classic will surely take its listeners on a journey to “The Other Side”, where “life is better”. Morphine was an Alternative Rock group from Boston which formed in 1989. Morphine’s unique sound combined blues and jazz elements with more traditional rock arrangements, and the lead singer Mark Sandman had a distinctively deep and laid-back tone. After five successful albums in the early '90s they disbanded after Mark Sandman tragically died on stage of a heart attack. The founding members reformed into the band Vapors of Morphine, maintaining much of the original style and sound. With a slow, smouldering sound consisting of saxophones, soft percussion, two finger bass and beatnik-style poetry lyrics, the bands bluesy sound has been captured fully in Unders stunning rework. The lyrics of the track talk of “crossing over to the other side” and this version pays homage to the original and celebrates the living achievements of Mark Sandman before he sadly passed away. Created by Helia Jamali, the Artwork was influenced by the song lyrics, and is intended to be a visually stimulating journey to an unknown but familiar place “with the preacher's wife”. PREMIERE: Joey Negro - Must Be The Music (The Original Disco Mix)

'Produced With Love' album out 23 June @joeynegro continues to cement his place in the annals of disco‘s rich history with the release of a new version of his hit record ‘Must Be The Music’: a track that has been given a complete overhaul from its original incarnation. Originally released in 1999 and featuring Taka Boom (sister of Chaka Khan) on vocals, ‘Must Be The Music’ was a hit in every sense of the word. Released by the Subliminal label, it was a one of the rare records to make the transition from club mainstay to genuine pop hit, eventually breaking into the top 10 of the UK singles chart. Now completely reworked by Joey Negro himself, the record has been totally transformed and given a new lease of life as a shimmering disco anthem in the vein of disco demigods Chic and Change. “The only thing that remains from the original record is the chorus backing vocals. All the drums, music and verse vocals from Dianne Charlamagne are new. The original sounds a little dated to me now: it’s too fast and has that filtered sound that worked in the 90s and still seems to find favour in some quarters, but for me is tired. “Because it was a hit I often get asked to play it when I DJ, so I thought it would be cool to do a radically different remake my own song, produce a new version I could play in my sets alongside original disco and the new music I’m making now.” Joey Negro This new version of ‘Must Be The Music’ is taken from the forthcoming Joey Negro album Produced With Love. Described by DJ Mag as “his latest masterpiece…this is feel-good, love-inspired classic disco for the 21st Century” and as “sunshine in aural form” by Mixmag, this is only the second ever Joey Negro album to be released – and the first for more than 20 years. The overwhelming majority of music included was newly recorded: a real rarity when it comes to modern disco and indicative of the level of care and attention that has been poured into the project. ‘Must Be The Music (The Original Disco Version)’ is out NOW on Z Records. The Joey Negro album Produced With Love lands in June. https://zrecords.lnk.to/ProducedWithLove https://soundcloud.com/joeynegro https://www.facebook.com/joeynegro https://twitter.com/JoeyNegro

BERNARD - SONG (V - SANSON) Thoma Cher Edit (FREE DL)

Courtesy of @thoma-cher "To celebrate summer and at same time my first EP release, I decided to give away a "secret weapon" private edit of mine. The original track is from a French singer, Veronique Sanson, pretty famous in France in the 80s / 90s for her pop song. But in the late 70's, from a collaboration with producer Bernard Saint Paul, she came out with this fantastic slow disco funk track that very few people know about (I think). Myself, I have heard the original track by chance 1 or 2 years ago, fell in love with it and knew right away I wanted to do a serious re-work of it. Besides new arrangement, and new drums, I re-build a totally new 2 minutes intro for it to shine when Veronique's voice comes in. Special mixing trick and mastering by my friend Benjamin L'hotelier. Here we go."

LINDSTRØM - Live from Trópico Festival - Acapulco, Mexico 2016

Exclusive - Lindstrøm Live This hour-long session is a rare live set, taken from @feedelity's headline performance last year at Trópico Festival in Acapulco, Mexico. @tropicomx http://www.tropicomx.com/ "Walking around and seeing turtles, flamingos, and just enjoying the tropical climate of Mexico...there's something special about that because I'm from Norway and we just had snow two weeks ago. This is a mix of my own material, most of the songs are rearranged or edited a little bit to work better in a live set context. I usually select some old songs, some new ones, and some unreleased material, then try different things in the live mix. I don't usually share my live sets because they don't feel as exciting to me after the fact, though they do feel really great when playing live."

GOURANGA MIXTAPE: Greg Wilson - The Chic Organization - 1977-79 Selection Reworked

GREG WILSON presents The Chic Organization – 1977-79 Selection Reworked Greg writes about the mix and all things Chic at his blog: http://blog.gregwilson.co.uk/2018/06/the-chic-organization-1977-79-selection-reworked/ Chic had a sound of all their own, the crack rhythm section of Nile Rodgers (guitar), Bernard Edwards (bass) and drummer Tony Thompson providing the highly infectious grooves that characterised their records. They would be massively influential as a consequence, their anthemic tracks still loved all these years later, with a new younger generation embracing their good time vibe in the same way their parents might have. The mix consists of 12 edits / reworks of 9 Rogers & Edwards produced tracks, all of which happened to be originally recorded during 1977-79, the years which saw Disco peak and decline, with Chic at the helm during those halcyon days, their own recordings providing 4 US top 10 singles, including a pair of #1s, whilst Sister Sledge, whose success they mentored, weighed in via the hit-laden ‘We Are Family’ LP. They even found time for a French excursion via Sheila & B Devotion’s ‘Spacer’. Ian Dury And The Blockheads - Wake Up (Dicky Trisco Edit)

To coincide with Ian Dury's birthday @dicky-trisco has shared an edit of the great man's 1977 single 'Wake Up And Make Love With Me'. Dicky Trisco - 12th May 2017: "The first 45 single I ever bought was by Ian Dury and The Blockheads and was called ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’. I bought it in a newsagent store called John Menzies, which had a black weekly chart board with plastic letters on it that was updated by hand each week. I can’t really remember how I came across the track, or if it was just potluck. I probably heard it on Top of the Pops, or on the weekly chart show on the wireless as it used to be called back in those days. Anyway I bought it and to this day it is a song that I love and would be happy to hear any time, any place and it introduced me to the music of Ian Dury and The Blockheads. Ian Dury for me reflected what pop music and music in general was all about back then – a longing to be different and to make a difference. He was a fascinating character. My Dad said he looked like a bloody idiot, which only made me admire him more. When he performed he had a real edge and his singing style was more like someone talking, or at times even shouting in his own London accent rather than something shiny and polished. And you have remember these were the days of The Bee Gees, Barbara Streisand, Leif Garrett and other such highly manicured artists. He also had a tremendous amount of personal style with his hats, braces, rolled up trousers and boots. And it was all this difference literally rolled together as well as the great music he made alongside The Blockheads, which pulled me in as an admiring youth. And the music…I couldn’t quite explain it at the time. But it was unmistakably ‘New Wave’ although I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant either beyond a handful of artists I was into like Blondie, Talking Heads and The Specials. It was a bit ‘Punk’ and DIY for sure and that was definitely a good thing. But it also had the funk. The Blockheads were a groovy outfit of great musicians. Much later I discovered that Chaz Jankel of The Blockheads went on to make some excellent disco influenced solo productions and that these tracks plus songs by Ian Dury and The Blockheads were played by groundbreaking NYC DJs like Larry Levan in the Disco scene out there and graced the floors of seminal clubs like the Paradise Garage and The Loft. My musical journey from awkward youth to being a DJ myself had come full circle all thanks to Ian Dury and The Blockheads. Anyway I can’t say I am an expert on Ian Dury or The Blockheads to be honest. I love a lot of their music and it has now been with me my whole adult life while many other things have come and gone. In fact at one stage I used to buy any copy of ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’ on 45 that crossed my path. But the thing that seems of significance to me and that I wanted to share here with you is the DIY spirit and original style of those times. And they were great times! Acts like Ian Dury and The Blockheads did things differently and did it their own way and gained recognition for what they did via their music around the world. I salute them for that and it gives me, and I hope you, more than a few reasons to be cheerful. So as a tribute to the genius and spirit of Ian Dury and The Blockheads and as my own personal way of saying thanks for the influence it has had on my life, I would like to share this rework of one of my favourite tracks on this his birthday. THANKS IAN DURY AND THE BLOCKHEADS! Your music really has made me feel like a lucky bastard x "
