I Know One ( Jim Reeves)

"I Know One" was my favourite Jim Reeves tune as a teenager..and it brings back sweet memories of those years. I guess it might have been the lilt in the rhythm and the melody that caught my ear.... This instrumental rendition has the lead and accompaniment featuring on four guitars: a pedal steel (MSA Classic XL E9 neck), a West Coast lap steel (B11 tuning), a Strat (2005) and a Martin acoustic. Key of C. Lyrics: When all your loves have ended, when all your friends have flown Who'll be around to want you when all your loves have gone Only a fool would do it after the way you've done But how many fools would have you, I know one This fool keeps wondering why he fell in love at all But you might need this fool around in case you fall After the party's over and you've had your fill of fun If you need a fool to forgive you, I know one You never know you might be lonely when all your loves have missed It wouldn't hurt to keep an extra fool on your list After your heart's been broken and it needs a place to run If you'll take a fool who loves you, I know one Yes, I know one.... I know one

16. L'Appuntamento

L'Appuntamento

L'Appuntamento was first made famous by Italian singer Ornella Vanoni in the 1970s and then more recently by Andrea Bocelli. It is actually a Brazilian composition by Grammy Award winner Roberto Carlos Braga and this tune was written in partnership with his friend, also singer and songwriter Erasmo Carlos, called "Sentado à Beira do Caminho" (Sitting by the Roadside) in Portuguese. In Italian, in the context of this song of unrequited love, "L'appuntamento" translates to a " date". It was featured in the sound track of Steven Soderbergh's "Oceans Twelve" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy9ug4ldc9s. This version with steel guitar lead follows Andrea Bocelli's more recent version. The tune is based on a I - I6 - Imaj7 - IIm - V7 sequence, and begins in the key of E which then modulates to F and finally G. The lead on the first and last keys are played on a Steelocaster A6, with the middle lead on a West Coast C6 tuning. Copyright for this arrangement was obtained from musicnotes.com. This rendition was built from a basic track that followed the musicnotes score, adding rhythm guitar (Martin custom) and Roland E-09 sampler keyboard tracks (strings, accordion). All tracks by me.

Moonlight Lady

Gabby was born Philip Kunia Kahahawaii Jr. He spent his childhood supporting his family by selling newspapers and shining shoes. An accomplished steel guitarist and later a slack key artiste, he was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame in 2002. A kanikapila in his honour will be held at Waimanalo in O'ahu on 9 August. Gabby earned his nickname as he used to play in a band that required him to wear gabardene trousers. The Honolulu Star Bulletin Newspaper states "The thing about Gabby Pahinui was not only that he was an outstanding musician and entertainer, and a central figure -- maybe THE central figure -- of the Hawaiian Renaissance in the '70s, but that he was an inspiration to others. Thousands of Hawaiian kids learned that they were worthy as a people because of Gabby's example." "Moonlight Lady" is track 6 from The Gabby Pahinui Hawaiian Band vol. 1 album. It was composed by Carlos Andrade. It was also recorded by Taj Mahal and the Hula Blues Band in their album "Hanapepe Dream" with a nice steel track. This version on steel guitar was inspired by both of the above versions. The arrangement is mine and it features the West Coast C6. In addition to the steel track, there are 3 rhythm guitar tracks plus a lead guitar, a bass, and strings and vibraphone tracks. All tracks were performed by me. Key of C.

18. Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman

Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman

"Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" is a 1995 song written by Bryan Adams, Michael Kamen and Robert John "Mutt" Lange for the film of the same year "Don Juan DeMarco". The melody is used as a musical motif throughout the film, and the song is featured three times in the movie, twice performed by other artists in Spanish, and finally performed by Adams himself during the closing credits. The Adams version of the song, which features flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, is featured on the soundtrack album. It was at number one for five weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it the third number one song for the songwriting team, and went on to earn them their second Oscar nomination. An example of a steel guitar with flamenco style accompaniment, played with additional rhythm guitar accompaniment by Kay Das. Tracks were added on to a basic backing track by Arthur Dick of Hal Leonard. Instruments used: Steelocaster A6 and Martin Custom X. A Quadraverb GT with patch as used in "Sleepwalk" for the main lead, and a Johnson J station for the bluesy timbre. The amplifier was a Fender Hotrod Key of Eb/D. Here are the lyrics: To really love a woman, to understand her You gotta know her deep inside Hear every thought, see every dream An' give her wings when she wants to fly Then when you find yourself lyin' helpless in her arms You know you really love a woman When you love a woman You tell her, that she's really wanted When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one 'Cuz she needs somebody To tell her that it's gonna last forever So tell me have you ever really Really, really ever loved a woman? Yeah To really love a woman, let her hold you Til' you know how she needs to be touched You've gotta breathe her, really taste her Til' you can feel her in your blood An' when you can see your unborn children in her eyes You know you really love a woman When you love a woman You tell her that she's really wanted When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one 'Cuz she needs somebody To tell her that you'll always be together So tell me have you ever really Really, really ever loved a woman? Oh You've got to give her some faith, hold her tight A little tenderness, you gotta treat her right She will be there for you, takin' good care of you You really gotta love your woman, ya And when you find yourself lyin' helpless in her arms You know you really love a woman When you love a woman You tell her that she's really wanted When you love a woman you tell her that she's the one 'Cuz she needs somebody To tell her that it's gonna last forever So tell me have you ever really Really, really ever loved a woman? Yeah Just tell me have you ever really Really, really, ever loved a woman? Oh Just tell me have you ever really Really, really, ever loved a woman?
