Stockton, California may not be at the top of the list when naming the most prominent musical cities of our generation. In fact, Stockton may be more infamous for its violence than its violins, yet a young emcee named Carlos Bryant has a slightly different outlook on his hometown. "Stockton," Carlos states, "is dangerous and beautiful at the same time." Despite his difficult surroundings and losing his father at age 11, Carlos is using his past experiences as musical motivation.
Carlos Bryant's debut EP entitled "Phoenix" takes you on a lyrical tour of Stockton, California through the eyes of a young wise soul. Sharing stories and shedding light on his family, friends and the community, you can visualize Carlos working from his circle of influence to positively impact and uplift his society. You can literally hear the pain, hunger and fearlessness in the voice of the 19 year old from Stockton, whom seems to be taking stand as the city's artistic leader, AKA: the "Port City Hero".
The aim of the young emcee's first project is to make his mark as an artist and mark his growth as a man. "Phoenix" is the first of many musical memoirs to come from the talented lyricist, whose goal as an artist is to prove that you CAN make nonviolent, intelligent music and still succeed in this music industry.
