11. Food Order No.69

Food Order No.69

Rough Tune. What do you do when, at a bar, the waitress shouts out 'food order 69' to rowdy cheers? Write a tune where the first note is 'Eyyyy' (A), in the key of 'D'.

12. Shedbeats

Shedbeats

Created for week 3 of Deadmau5's Masterclass, 'Shedbeats' originally started out as a drum track, the sounds for which were all sampled from various objects and actions in my garden shed (where I work on my tracks). Then, on top of this beat, I created a verse/chorus structure of improvisation using two main scales: the whole tone scale and a variation on the Superlocrian mode (used primarily in eastern European Traditional music). This had the intention of conveying the distress and chaos of the inspiration piece (Rockit by Herbie Hancock), as well as its use of syncopated, 'Jazz like' melodies. The final section of the track was created by copying the MIDI data of the drum track and spreading it (rather randomly) amongst the different lead and bass synths (in much the same way as Deadmau5 with his central chordal structure). This results in the atonal, polyphonic chorus which is then developed until the piece ends. The entire Drum and Bass parts were developed from the ground up, while the other instruments were taken from presets on Logic and then were edited.
