Dan Phillipson Light, Darkness and the Tree I couldn’t find my own voice as an individual and I wanted to give meaning to my work. I had trouble identifying with the projects I worked on before and I wanted to create meaningful works everyone can understand. I found my roots exploring light and darkness through my sculptures. Life is defined by the passage of time, and the passage of time is the flow of light and darkness. Similar to the passing of night and day. I feel as if my work is somewhere in between living and non-living. Though the sculptures are inanimate, they feel alive. Thanks to my exploration through these sculptures, I’ve grown to value the light and darkness in my life. . I’ve grown a deep appreciation for my sculptures because they taught me the nature of light and darkness. When lost in darkness, I’m confident light will come. I can always overcome my darkness since light will shine through. I’ve grown to treasure the light knowing that darkness will come as well.

10. The Abomination of Desolation (Part 1): Exposing Jesus Sananda, the False Prophet: the Fake Son of God (Yahuah)

The Abomination of Desolation (Part 1): Exposing Jesus Sananda, the False Prophet: the Fake Son of God (Yahuah)

Video #1 description info for: “The Abomination of Desolation: Exposing the False Prophet – Jesus Sananda” 1. Exposing the Savior’s (Son of Yahuah’s) real name, YAHUSHUA : www.eliyah.com/yahushua.html 2. The Creator’s real name is Yahuah (Yah) not “God”. God is a pagan derived word: http://yahwehskingdom.com/yahuah.html http://wahiduddin.net/words/name_god.htm http://www.revelations.org.za/Elohim.htm http://www.thebodyofmessiah.com/authors/yahuah.htm 3. Who they call “Joshua” & “Jesus” today in the churches and in the Bible is WRONG. Both names should be spelled as such: Yahushua. Here’s the proof explained here: http://www.thewayprepared.com/studies/joshua-and-caleb.html http://theassemblyofyahowahtheeternal.com/printerversion/satan+jesus/p_godlordtitles.pdf 4. Some Bible verses I read in my video in correlation with the Creator’s real name: Isaiah quotes Satan saying and calling the Father the “Most High” here In Isaiah 14:14 (NASV): “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.” In the book of Daniel, even Nebuchadnezzar called the Creator, “Most High”: Daniel 3:26 Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abeg-Nego, servants of the MOST HIGH God, come out, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednago came from the midst of the fire. Also in Daniel 4:17 This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men. Daniel 4:24-25This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses. Daniel 4:34 And at the end of the time, I Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever. Isaiah 12:2 (NKJV) Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘ For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ 5.Why was the “Book of Enoch” covered up by the church? Study the truth about the Book of Enoch below. It’s easy to see why they did not put it in the Bible…Satan had to hide Yah (the Creator’s) truth and deceive many! Read here: http://www.sherryshriner.com/church-coverup.htm “Age of Deceit” movie touches on Enoch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjmFm8PIz8M Another great movie to watch, “The Fallen Angels & Nephilim” explains about Enoch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B40mp7Kxf_M&feature=related You can also read the Book of Enoch online here (This version was translated by R.H. Charles in 1917): http://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/boe/ Also, “The Secrets of Enoch” another one of Enoch’s books that is good to read, and you can study it here (it’s the version translated by Richard Laurence), whish there is no different than the one translated by R.H. Charles): http://reluctant-messenger.com/2enoch01-68.htm Enoch calls Yahuah (Yahuah is the Creator for the newcomers), he calls the Yahuah the Most High….READ “THE BOOK OF ENOCH”!!! It’s not that hard to understand if you ask the Most High (Yahuah) for the truth in all things! Enoch & Elijah were the only 2 men who did not see death in ALL OF MANKIND…OUT OF ALL OF HIS PEOPLE . What does this mean? The Gospel of Nicodemus use to be read by Christians and was taken out for whatever reason…. Read here: http://www.sherryshriner.com/books/gospel_of_nicodemus.htm http://www.orthodox.cn/patristics/apostolicfathers/nicodem.htm Some Christians around the world still study the Book of Enoch: Historical and other relevant sites to the Ethiopian orthodox Church Online Amharic Bible http://www.bible.org/foreign/amharic/ Online Amharic Bible and information about Ethiopia http://www.selamta.net/amharic_bible.htm (Amharic Bible) A summary of the Book Enoch http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01602a.htm, The Book Of Enoch http://www.cix.co.uk/~craftings/enoch1.htm The Ethiopian Bible Society http://www.biblesociety-ethiopia.org/ Institute of Ethiopian studies, Addis Ababa University http://www.ies-ethiopia.org/ Ethiopian writing system http://www.senamirmir.com/projects/ethiopic/ethiopic.html Ethiopian writing system http://www.ethiopians.com/bayeyima.html African writing system http://www.ccsu.edu/Afstudy/upd6-1.html Introduction to the Ethiopian orthodox church and the culture http://sellassie.ourfamily.com/culture/church.html The Association for the Return of The Maqdala (or Magdala) Ethiopian Treasures - is an international organization dedicated to retrieving priceless treasures looted during the British invasion of Ethiopia in 1867-8. http://www.afromet.org/ An article about the Ethiopian church http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abyssinian_Church A brief introduction of the Ethiopian Palm Sunday and Easter celebration http://www.us-srael.org/jsource/Society_&_Culture/ethchurch.html • All these links above were found at this website: http://ethiopianorthodox.org/links.html 5. The truth about Constantine and the Council of Nicaea and King James : Great info about the Book of Enoch and how Emperor Constantine contaminated and abolished the true teachings of Yahushua (the Son of the Creator) and the His apostles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hYcJ28IKYc http://babylon-the-great.xanga.com/674811257/item/ http://www.rense.com/general66/hide.htm King James I Compiled by: www.FreedomSpirit.com James VI & I (19 June 1566 – 27 March 1625) was King of Scots as James VI from 1567 to 1625, and King of England and Ireland as James I from 1603 to 1625. From 1590 to 1592, King James personally oversaw the trials of many suspected witches in Scotland. Theory of monarchy In 1597–98, James wrote two works, The True Law of Free Monarchies and Basilikon Doron (Royal Gift), in which he established an ideological base for monarchy. In the True Law, he sets out the divine right of kings, explaining that for Biblical reasons kings are higher beings than other men, though "the highest bench is the sliddriest to sit upon".[34] The document proposes an absolutist theory of monarchy, by which a king may impose new laws by royal prerogative but must also pay heed to tradition and to God, who would "stirre up such scourges as pleaseth him, for punishment of wicked kings".[35] Basilikon Doron, written as a book of instruction for the four-year-old Prince Henry, provides a more practical guide to kingship.[36] Despite banalities and sanctimonious advice,[37] the work is well written, perhaps the best example of James' prose.[38] James' advice concerning parliaments, which he understood as merely the king's "head court", foreshadows his difficulties with the English Commons: "Hold no Parliaments," he tells Henry, "but for the necesitie of new Lawes, which would be but seldome".[39] In the True Law James maintains that the king owns his realm as a feudal lord owns his fief, because kings arose "before any estates or ranks of men, before any parliaments were holden, or laws made, and by them was the land distributed, which at first was wholly theirs. And so it follows of necessity that kings were the authors and makers of the laws, and not the laws of the kings."[40] Although the concept of the Oath of Allegiance was founded upon the principles of the Magna Carta, its importance in the early modern period was brought to the fore by James. The Oath of Allegiance was required initially of those suspected of Catholicism, but extended in 1610 to virtually everybody over the age of eighteen.[41] The use of the Oath directly underpinned King James' and his supporters' defence of the kings of Europe against papal pretensions to an indirect deposing power. [42] Gunpowder plot Main article: Gunpowder Plot On the eve of the state opening of the second session of James' first Parliament, on 5 November 1605, a soldier named Guy Fawkes was discovered in the cellars of the parliament buildings guarding a pile of wood, not far from 36 barrels of gunpowder with which he intended to blow up Parliament House the following day and cause the destruction, as James put it, "not only...of my person, nor of my wife and posterity also, but of the whole body of the State in general".[57] The sensational discovery of the Catholic Gunpowder Plot, as it quickly became known, aroused a mood of national relief at the delivery of the king and his sons which Salisbury exploited to extract higher subsidies from the ensuing Parliament than any but one granted to Elizabeth.[58] Personal relationships Throughout his life James was rumoured to have had love affairs with male courtiers, in particular Esmé Stewart, 6th Lord d'Aubigny (later 1st Duke of Lennox); Robert Carr, 1st Earl of Somerset; and George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham. In his own time he was notorious for his male loves, and it was said of him that Elizabeth was King, now James is Queen (Rex fuit Elizabeth, nunc est regina Jacobus) referring to his position of power in post-Elizabethan times. However, this was often misread to mean other things.[91] Some modern historians disagree: "The evidence of his correspondence and contemporary accounts have led some historians to conclude that the king was homosexual or bisexual. The King James Version ("KJV") of the Bible was dedicated to him, being published in 1611 as a result of the Hampton Court Conference which he had convened to resolve issues with translations then being used. This translation of the Bible is still in widespread use today. During the reign of James, the English colonization of North America started its course. In 1607, Jamestown was founded in Virginia, and in 1620 Plymouth in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. During the next 150 years, England would fight with Spain, the Netherlands, and France for control of the continent. 6. The truth about the Creation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWUO62ghuQY 7. Here is a list of all the apostles’ names: 1 Simon(who is called Peter), 2 Andrew (simon’s brother, 3 James (son of Zebedee), 4 John (James brother), 5 Philip, 6 Bartholomew, 7 Thomas, 8 Matthew, 9 James (son of Alphaeus), 10 Lebbaeus (whose surname was Thaddaeus), 11 Simon (the Canaanite), 12 Matthias (who replaced Judas). QUESTION: Where are the books of these other men…where’s Andrew’s book? Where’s Philip’s book? Where’s Bartholomew’s ? Where’s Thomas’s book? And Lebbaeus’s??? And Matthias’s book…where are they?!?!?!?! Oh…but they put “Paul’s” writings in….Just something to think about. 8. So, ALL the places…all these colleges, universities, schools, and seminaries all around the world that the Christian preachers and leaders of today attend to teach the Bible….ALL OF THEM ARE CONTROLLED BY THE COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS Who is the Council on Foreign Relations (aka CFR)?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO8OnxEld3M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxEVen82hoE The Council on Foreign Relations is pulling many strings behind the churches of America today. This list is from 2007, so you can imagine how many more our today!! http://ctwilcox.com/CFRroster.pdf John 8:32 “And you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.” (NASB) Yahushua said this! I read from Matthew Chapter 24 (I didn’t read all of it), but please feel free to do so, as I will be talking more about this in my 2nd video when I expose more of the false prophet, Sananda Jesus (aka Jesus Sananda) and the many deceptions that are coming our way in the near future. Matthew 24 1 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” 3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all[a]these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences,[b] and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. 15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’[c] spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. 23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. 26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together. 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it[d] is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,[e] but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour[f] your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. 45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. 47 Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ [g] 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, 51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. I also read from Daniel 9:27, Daniel 11:31, and Daniel 12:11 (which all connect with Matthew 24). Daniel 9:27 27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.” Daniel 11:31 31 And forces[a] shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. Daniel 12:11 11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. We shot all of the hotel room scenes at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey and we had finished our day early. Ian was in make-up, and I was looking at Russell Sams, who plays Dick, wearing his aviator glasses, and I said "you look like George Michael." Since we had some time, a crew, a camera, etc., I thought what the hell, let's shoot something fun to watch in dailies tomorrow. Our sound man, Felipe Borrero, to quickly find a CD of George Michael's Faith -- which he happened to have in his car. I then told Russell, who was always game for anything, "okay, this is your first film, and as an initiation, I want you to do a striptease dance for the crew to Faith." He stared at me for a second, in slight disbelief, and then said, "okay, sure." It was improv, and we only had time for one take, so I planted the camera with a wide lens at the foot of the bed, played Faith full blast, and let him loose. It was just something funny for the crew to watch, and everyone was laughing their asses off. Mid-way through, I looked over and saw Ian Somerhalder in the hallway in his bathrobe on the way back from make-up, looking into the room incredulously. I made a quick motion for him to "go for it" and the next thing I knew he jumped into the shot -- right on the beat. It was, honestly, a completely spontaneous, magic moment, and it was such a funny scene that I simply had to include it in the movie. The only problem was that there was no way we could afford the music licensing rights to Faith, so I wrote a letter to George Michael, and sent him the scene, begging him to let me use it. George, being one of the coolest guys in the universe, gave us the song for a dime, and I will forever be grateful because it's one of my favorite scenes in the movie. One day I'll go back into editing and pull out the entire unedited version -- the full dance -- which I originally wanted to include in the movie, but trimmed down for reasons of length. Note: I am the director of this film, The Rules of Attraction (2002), and this clip is fair use under U.S. copyright law because it is (1) non-commercial, (2) transformative in nature, (3) uses no more of the original work than necessary for the video's purpose, and (4) does not compete with the original work and could have no negative affect on it's market.

13. 13th Congressional Debate

13th Congressional Debate

Matt Goetten and David Gill appeared before a panel of journalists and a live studio audience at Illinois Public Media on March 14th for a debate between the two Democratic candidates in the Illinois 13th Congressional District primary election. The debate aired live on WILL-TV and WILL-AM, and was webcast on WILL Online. TRANSCRIPT: I AM JIM MEADOWS, AND ON BEHALF OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF ILLINOIS, AND W.I.L.L. PUBLIC MEDIA, I WELCOME ALL OF YOU WATCHING AND LISTENING ON W.I.L.L. AND OTHER STATIONS CARRYING THIS DEBATE THROUGHOUT THE 13TH DISTRICT. I WELCOME THOSE OF YOU TAKING PART IN OUR LIVE CHAT GOING ON AT WILL.ILLINOIS.EDU. THE QUESTIONS THAT THE CANDIDATES WILL ANSWER THIS EVENING WERE BASED IN PART UPON A SURVEY OF STUDENTS FROM COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN THE 13TH DISTRICT. BUT THE QUESTIONS IN THEIR FINAL FORM ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF OUR PANEL OF THREE REPORTERS FROM SPRINGFIELD, PATRICK YEAGLE, OF THE "ILLINOIS TIMES", FROM DECATUR, ALLISON PETTY OF THE "HERALD AND REVIEW", AND FROM CHAMPAIGN, JILLS DISIS THE EDITOR IN CHIEF OF THE "DAILY ILLINI". I ALSO WELCOME THE AUDIENCE JOINING US IN THE STUDIO THIS EVENING. THEY INCLUDE SUPPORTERS OF BOTH CANDIDATES, AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO REMAIN SILENT AND NOT APPLAUD OR BOO THE CANDIDATES DURING THE DEBATE. RIGHT NOW, I INVITE YOU ALL TO GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE AS WE INTRODUCE THE TWO CANDIDATES, MATT GOETTEN AND DAVID GILL. >> MR. MATT GOETTEN LIVES IN HIS HOME TOWN OF CARROLLTON WHERE HE IS SERVING SECOND TERM OF STATE'S ATTORNEY FOR GREENE COUNTY. HE IS THE CAPTAIN OF THE ILLINOIS AIR NATIONAL GUARD AND SERVED IN AFGHANISTAN DURING A PREVIOUS TOUR OF DUTY WITH THE ILLINOIS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD. THIS IS MATT GOETTEN'S FIRST RUN FOR CONGRESS. DR. DAVID GILL OF BLOOMINGTON IS AN EMERGENCY ROOM PHYSICIAN AT ADVOCATE BROMENN REGIONAL CENTER IN NORMAL. BEFORE MOVING INTO EMERGENCY MEDICINE, DR. GILL WORKED AS A FAMILY PRACTICE PHYSICIAN AND RAN FOR CONGRESS IN THE OLD 15TH DISTRICT AGAINST REPUBLICAN TIM JOHNSON IN 2006, AND 2010. WE HAD HOPED TO HAVE A DEBATE FEATURING THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES, BUT CONGRESSMAN JOHNSON DECLINED OUR INVITATION AND OTHER GOP, MICHAEL FIRSCHING AND FRANK METZGER FAILED TO MEET THE CRITERIA. HOWEVER, YOU CAN FIND MATERIAL ABOUT ALL THE CANDIDATES ON OUR ELECTION WEB SITE WILL.ILLINOIS.EDU/ELECTION. A WORD NOW ABOUT ILLINOIS' NEW 13TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. IT COVERS PARTS OF THE OLD DISTRICTS REPRESENTED BY CONGRESSMAN TIM JOHNSON AND JOHN SHIMKUS, REACHING FROM CHAMPAIGN URBANA IN EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS, OVER TO HARDIN IN THE SOUTHWEST. IT INCLUDES SPRINGFIELD, BLOOMINGTON NORMAL, EDWARDSVILLE, DECATUR, CLINTON, AND CARROLLTON AMONG OTHER COMMUNITIES. MR. GOETTEN AND DR. GILL HAVE AGREED TO A DEBATE WITH NO OPENING OR CLOSING STATEMENTS. NO SET TIME LIMITS FOR ANSWERS. I WILL DECIDE WHEN IT IS TIME TO MOVE FROM ONE QUESTION TO THE NEXT. OUR PANEL WILL BE ASKING DIRECT QUESTIONS AND SEEKING DIRECT ANSWERS. LET'S GO NOW TO OUR FIRST QUESTION, AND WE ARE STARTING WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ECONOMY. ALLISON PETTY WITH THE "HERALD AND REVIEW." >>MR. GOETTEN, THE NATIONAL DEBT IS ABOUT $15 TRILLION. WHAT ARE SOME SPECIFIC STEPS YOU BELIEVE CONGRESS CAN TAKE TOWARD REDUCING IT? >> ALLISON, IF I MAY, I HAVE GROWN UP HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, AS WAS STATED IN THE OPENING, I HAVE A HISTORY OF SERVICE. I AM HOPING TO CARRY THAT FORWARD TO CONGRESS. I HAVE A JOBS PLAN THAT I ROLLED OUT LAST WEEK THAT I THINK HAS SOME SPECIFIC LANGUAGE IN THERE THAT CAN HELP REDUCE THAT. WE HAVE TO GET BACK TO SOME TAX FAIRNESS HERE IN THIS COUNTRY AND IMMEDIATELY REPEAL THE BUSH TAX CUTS FOR THE WEALTHIEST OF AMERICANS. WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE TAX CODE. WE HAVE TO FIND WAYS THAT WE CAN PUT PEOPLE BACK TO WORK HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, BUT THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. WE HAVE TO FIND WAYS TO INCREASE THE TAX BASE BY DOING THINGS LIKE SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES AS A FORMER BUSINESS OWNER MYSELF, I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO MEET A PAYROLL. I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO PUT PEOPLE TO WORK. I KNOW HOW THAT CAN HELP, MORE TAXPAYERS ON THE TOLL, PAYING TAXES. I KNOW THAT IF WE GET MANUFACTURING BACK UP TO SPEED HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS RATHER THAN LOSING MANUFACTURING AS WE HAVE DONE IN GREENE AND REALLY JERSEY COUNTY AND THE METRO EAST THAT I AM MOST FAMILIAR WITH, THAT HELPS FILL THAT GAP. BUT SPECIFICALLY PUTTING PEOPLE BACK TO WORK, I MEAN IT HELPS. >>THANK YOU. DR. GILL, YOUR ANSWER. >>I INITIALLY WANTED TO STATE THAT I AM VERY PLEASED TO BE HERE. I AM GLAD W.I.L.L. IS HOSTING THIS DEBATE. I AM GLAD THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF WHICH I AM A MEMBER IS COHOSTING. THAT'S LETTING YOU KNOW THAT I AM A MEMBER OF THE LEAGUE IS FULL DISCLOSURE SO TO SPEAK. WE HAD OFFERED TO HAVE SIX OR EIGHT OR TEN OF THESE DEBATES, FOR WHATEVER REASON, MR. GOETTEN'S CAMPAIGN WAS UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO ACCOMMODATE THAT. WE REALLY WANTED THE VOTERS TO GET A CHANCE TO KNOW US. I AM THRILLED TO HAVE THE ONE, AND I AM GLAD YOU PUT IT TOGETHER. THE 15 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT IS REALLY STARK. IT IS SOMETHING TO BE DEALT WITH, THOUGH. WHEN PRESIDENT BUSH WENT INTO OFFICE, WE HAD THE GREATEST SURPLUS IN AMERICAN HISTORY. IT IS SOMETHING THAT GOT CREATED PRIMARILY DURING TIM JOHNSON'S TIME. FIRST THING I WOULD BE DOING IS REVERSE THE THINGS TIM JOHNSON DID THAT RESULTED IN THIS DEFICIT. THE TAX CUTS, AS MR. GOETTEN INDICATED, NEED TO BE RESCINDED. WE SHOULDN'T BE ALLERGIC AS TRUE DEMOCRATS WE SHOULDN'T BE ALLERGIC TO RAISING REVENUES IN THIS COUNTRY. TOP MARGINAL TAX RATE FOR THE WEALTHIEST PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY WHO HAVE BEEN DOING SO WELL HAVE BEEN CUT DECADE AFTER DECADE TO THE POINT WHERE WE ARE REALLY DOWN TO THE BONE SO TO SPEAK. IT PIECES PEOPLE LIKE GROVER NORQUIST, BUT HARD FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. I SEE NOTHING ABOUT RAISING TAXES ON THE MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES, ONLY SEGMENT OF AMERICAN SOCIETY DOING WELL THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. WE CAN CUT SPENDING AS WELL. I HAVE AGREE IN MATHEMATICS AT U OF I. YOU DON'T NEED AGREE TO REALIZE YOU HAVE TO RAISE REVENUES AND CUT SPENDING. WE DON'T NEED TO BE SENDING $20 BILLION IN SUBSIDIES TO THE OIL COMPANIES MAKING RECORD PROFITS EVERY YEAR WHICH EVERYONE IS AWARE OF WHEN THEY FILL THEIR GAS TANK EACH DAY. THE DEFENSE BUDGET ALSO HAS BECOME EXTREMELY BLOATED. IT IS THREE TIMES IT WAS IN THE 1990'S, OUTSIDE OF THE AFGHANISTAN AND IRAN SITUATION. OTHER THINGS THAT MR. JOHNSON DID THAT BROUGHT THIS CALAMITY UPON US, SENDING US TO THE TWO DECADE LONG WARS WHICH HAVE BEEN TREMENDOUS COST IN MANY, MANY WAYS, NOT JUST FINANCIALLY, AND HE ALSO WAS PART OF A PRESCRIPTION DRUG BILL, MEDICARE DRUG BILL, A BOONDOGGLE. THE CLEAREST EVIDENCE WITH REGARDS TO THE FACT THESE GUYS IN WASHINGTON, BOTH PARTIES ARE OWNED BY CORPORATE AMERICA. WHEN YOU SIGN OFF ON A BILL THAT SAYS UNCLE SAM MAY NOT NEGOTIATE ON DRUG PRICES, IT ESPECIALLY SAYS THAT, THEN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. UNCLE SAM HAS SUCH BARGAINING LIVE WITH 64 MILLION LIVES WORTH OF BARGAINING POWER. IT IS THIS WHOLE OWNERSHIP OF GOVERNMENT BY THE MULTI CORPORATIONS AND WALL STREET THAT I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THAT DRIVES MY CAMPAIGN, I AM PROUD TO BE THE ONE CANDIDATE IN THIS RACE WHO HAS PLEDGE TO NOT TAKE A PENNY FROM THE CORPORATIONS OR THE WALL STREET BANKS. >> THANK YOU BOTH. >>OUR NEXT QUESTION COMES FROM JILLS DISIS. >>DR. GILL, TUITION FOR COLLEGE IS INCREASING ACROSS THE BOARD AND STUDENT ARE TAKING OUT LARGER AND LARGER LOANS IN ORDER TO AFFORD IT. EVEN WITH A COLLEGE EDUCATION, THE JOB MARKET IS STILL BLEAK. SOME ARE REPORTING QUARTER OF RECENT GRADUATE ARE UNEMPLOYED. WHAT DO YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE FOR THE JOB MARKET TO RECOVER, AND HOW WOULD YOU AS A FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE IN CONGRESS? >> IT IS AN EXCELLENT QUESTION. IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS ASKED OF ME AT ALL OF THE COLLEGES AND THE SIX LARGE UNIVERSITIES IN THIS CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. IT IS ASHAME THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE COMING OUT OF SCHOOL UNABLE TO FIND JOBS. IT IS ASHAME SCHOOL COST SO MUCH. IT WASN'T LIKE THAT WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL. I WORKED, BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOCK SHELVES THIS A DEPARTMENT STORE AND PUT MYSELF THROUGH COLLEGE AND MOP FLOORS IN THE DO MATT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO GET THROUGH MEDICAL SCHOOL. THESE DAYS YOU CAN'T DO IT. YOU CAN'T GET A PART TIME JOB TO COVER THE COST OF TUITION HERE. IT GOES BACK TO PRIORITIES. I SAY ALL THE TIME, HAD WE FOLLOWED MY LEAD, I WAS ARGUING WITH TIM JOHNSON BACK IN EARLY 2003 BEFORE THE INVASION OF IRAQ. HE SHOOK HIS FIST AT ME AND SAID I WAS UNPATRIOTIC. AND I SAID DON'T ENGAGE IN THIS FOOLISHNESS. HAD WE PUT THAT MONEY INVESTED INTO IRAQ, HAD WE PUT THAT INTO FREE COLLEGE FOR EVERY YOUNG MAN AND WOMAN COMING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, IT WOULD HAVE PAID FOR P FREE COLLEGE FOR 50 TO 100 YEARS. AGAIN, IT IS A QUESTION OF PRIORITY. YOU ASKED ABOUT JOBS, AND AGAIN, I GO BACK TO THE SAME OLD MESSAGE THAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR SO LONG, YOU CAN'T CREATE JOBS UNTIL YOU HAVE A HEALTHY ECONOMY. YOU WON'T HAVE A HEALTHY ECONOMY UNTIL YOU HAVE A CONGRESS THAT HAS INDIVIDUALS WITHIN IT WHO ARE NOT FUNDED BY UNITED HEALTH CARE AND SHELL OIL. WE HAVE SEEN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DEMOCRATS JOIN IN WITH THE REPUBLICANS IN TAKING CORPORATE CASH. THEN YOU GET NAFTA, THEN YOU GET CAFTA AND WARS FOR OIL, AND WE CAPTAIN HAVE A HEALTHY ECONOMY WHEN OUR CONGRESSMEN AND WOMEN ARE SHOULD BE WEARING NASCAR OUTFIT WITH THE CORPORATE LOGOS ON THEM. AGAIN, I PRY MYSELF ON THE FACT THAT OUR MONEY COMES FROM ORDINARY PEOPLE, ORDINARY AMERICANS WHO NEED HELP. >>THANK YOU. MR. GOETTEN, YOUR RESPONSE. >>I AGREE WITH DAVID THAT IT IS ABOUT PRIORITIES, AND THAT'S WHY IN MY CAMPAIGN, I HAVE BEEN PRIORITIZING JOBS. I DISAGREE WITH DAVID THAT HEALTHY ECONOMY PRODUCES JOBS. I THINK JOBS PRODUCE A HEALTHY ECONOMY. WE HAVE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS THAT NEED TO BE FUNDED, AND WE HAVE A CONGRESS THAT IS BROKEN AND LOST SIGHT OF THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A TRANSPORTATION APPROPRIATIONS BILL THAT KEEPS GETTING BATTED BACK AND FORTH. LOOK, WE HAVE IN THE METRO EAST, 255, 67 CORRIDOR PROJECT THAT'S BEEN STALLED OUT IN GREENE AND JERSEY COUNTY. WE HAVE THE 51 WIDENING IN DECATUR. WE HAVE THE HIGH SPEED RAIL, ALL OF THAT RELIES ON FUNDING FROM CONGRESS. WE HAVE SPEAKING OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, AND I KNOW THAT WAS THE QUESTION. IN ORDER TO GET THE ECONOMY BACK ON TRACK, WE HAVE A FRAGILE RECOVERY UNDERWAY CURRENTLY. WE HAVE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICTS LIKE LOUIS AND CLARK COMMUNITY COLLEGE WHO HAVE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS WITH UNIONS APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS AND LOCAL BUSINESS TO PUT PEOPLE BACK TO WORK RIGHT AWAY. WE HAVE RIGHT HERE ON MY ALMA MATER, HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS, PH.D. PROGRAMS, MASTER DEGREE PROGRAMS, BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMS TO PUT US TO WORK IN THE LONG RUN. THE FACT PEOPLE ARE GETTING OUT OF COLLEGE WITH COLLEGE DEBT, IT IS HORRIBLE. THE FACT THEY CAN'T FIND JOBS IS A FAILURE OF CONGRESS TO HAVE THE FORESIGHT TO FOCUS ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT OF MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES AND SPECIFICALLY HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, AND THAT'S WHY WHEN I AM OUTTALKING TO PEOPLE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, THAT'S WHAT I HEAR THEM TALKING ABOUT. HOW IS CONGRESS GOING TO HELP US GET BACK TO WORK? AND IT GOES TO YOUR QUESTION ABOUT RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATES AND PUTTING THEM BACK TO WORK. >>THANK YOU BOTH. >> OUR NEXT QUESTION COMES FROM PATRICK YEAGLE, "ILLINOIS TIMES". >>MR. GOETTEN, CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT OBAMA, WITH EACH POLITICAL PARTY ACCUSING THE OTHER OF EFFECTIVELY TRYING TO END THE PROGRAM. CUTTING THROUGH THE PARTISAN RHETORIC, WHAT CAN BE DONE TO SAVE MEDICARE AND KEEP THE PROGRAM VIABLE AND USEFUL? >> I THINK DAVID RAISED AN INTERESTING POINT IN HIS OPENING AND WE SHOULD ALLOW MEDICARE TO NEGOTIATE WITH PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES LIKE TRI CARE, AS MEMBER OF ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, NOW AIR NATIONAL GUARD, MY FAMILY AND I RELY ON TRI CARE RESERVES SELECT AS OUR MEANS OF AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE. TRI CARE IS ALLOWED TO DO THAT, NEGOTIATE PRICES DIRECTLY WITH THE COMPANIES FOR MEDICINE. LOOK, AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. IN GREEN HE COUNTY, EVEN AS THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, I COULD NO LONGER AFFORD MY HEALTH COVERAGE FOR MY FAMILY. SO WE DO RELY ON THAT THROUGH THE AIR NATIONAL GUARD. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE RISING HEALTH CARE COSTS, AND THAT'S ONE WAY, AND I DON'T SEE THAT AS A PARTISAN ISSUE. I SEE IT AS SOMETHING ALREADY BEEN IMPLEMENTED OTHER GOVERNMENT INSURANCE PROGRAMS THAT COULD EASILY BE IMPLEMENTED IN MEDICARE. >>THANK YOU. DR. GILL, YOUR RESPONSE? >> HEALTH CARE OVER ALL CAN BE SALVAGED IN THIS COUNTRY. THIS IS SOMETHING VERY NEAR AND DEAR TO ME. I AM A PHYSICIAN, AND HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN HEALTH CARE 29 YEARS AGO. I JOINED PHYSICIANS FOR NATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAM. THIS IS ADVOCACY GROUP THAT HAS PUSHED AND PUSHED FOR A SINGLE PAYER PROGRAM OR IMPROVED MEDICARE FOR ALL WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT THIS COUNTRY DESPERATELY NEEDS. I LISTEN TO MR. GOETTEN ON THE RADIO TODAY AND HE SAID HE DIDN'T BELIEVE WE COULD AFFORD A SINGLE PAYER PROGRAM. IN FACT, HE CAN'T AFFORD (INAUDIBLE) KIND OF OUR GIANT HEALTH CARE BUDGET INTO A BLACK HOLE KNOWN AS THE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY. WE NEED TO TAKE THAT BACK, THAT'S A HUGE SUM OF MONEY, ALMOST A TRILLION DOLLARS YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF EVERYBODY, SENIOR CITIZENS, THE WORKING ADULTS, YOUNG PEOPLE, AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE A LONG TIME AGO. HARRY TRUMAN WAS TALKING ABOUT T IT IS FAR PAST TIME. I SEE TOO MANY PEOPLE SUFFERING AND DYING. WE HAVE AMERICAN CITIZEN DIES EVERY TWO MINUTES BECAUSE OF LACK OF INSURANCE IN THIS COUNTRY. IT IS A MORAL FAILURE F YOU ARE A TRUE DEMOCRAT LIKE I AM, YOU CAN'T TOLERATE THAT. THESE GUYS IN WASHINGTON, THEY ARE OWNED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANIES. THEY ARE OWNED BY PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES, AND UNTIL WE HAVE PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON D.C. THAT WILL STAND UP AND BE FUNDED BY ORDINARY CITIZENS AND STAND UP FOR ORDINARY CITIZENS, YOU WILL CONTINUE CAN HEALTH CARE AS IS. LOOK THE AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE ACT DELIVERED 32 36 MILLION AMERICANS INTO INDUSTRY THAT EXISTS TO RETURN PROFIT FOR INVESTORS, NOT TO MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY. WE WILL BE HEALTHIER WITH JOB CREATION. NATIONAL NURSE'S UNION DID A STUDY TWO YEARS AGO THAT SAID THREE MILLION NEW JOBS, THE DAY AFTER YOU PUT SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE TO WORK IN THIS COUNTRY. THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS I REALLY HAVE A PASSION TO GET TO WASHINGTON TO TELL A LOT OF STORIES OF PEOPLE SICK AND DYING BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF MOVEMENT ON HEALTH CARE. >>BEFORE WE GET ON TO THE NEXT QUESTION, MR. GOETTEN, IF YOU WANT TO EXPAND ON YOUR COMMENTS ON SINGLE PAYER. >>I WOULD, YOU KNOW, I APPRECIATE DAVID POINTED OUT THAT THE HEALTH CARE IS AFFORDABLE BECAUSE I THINK IN MY ANSWER, I DID STATE AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, NOT AFFORDABLE INSURANCE. BUT, LOOK, WE OPENED THIS LINE OF QUESTIONING WITH A 15 TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT THAT WE ARE LOOKING SQUARE IN THE FACE. DAVID SAYS WE WILL SAVE 40% OR WHATEVER THE FIGURE THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, WHEN YOU SAY WE, THE ECONOMY SAVES THAT. SOMEONE IS PICKING THE BILL UP, AND IT IS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AT A TIME WHEN CONGRESS IS BROKE AND THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ENDING MEDICARE AS WE KNOW IT, AS THE QUESTION WENT, AT A TIME WHEN THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT VETERANS WHO ARE NOT GOING TO GET THEIR SERVICES THAT THEY NEED BECAUSE WE CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO PAY FOR IT AT A TIME WHEN ALL OF THAT IS GOING ON, I DON'T KNOW HOW WE CAN SAY WE CAN AFFORD WE CAN AFFORD WHAT YOU ARE PROPOSING. >>I THINK WE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE IT THERE. WE HAVE TIME FOR ONE MORE QUESTION, I THINK, IN THE ECONOMIC SECTION. ALLISON PETTY. >>DR. GILL, SUPPORTERS OF FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS SAY WITH COUNTRIES SUCH AS SOUTH KOREA AND PANAMA, AND COLUMBIA HAVE A POSITIVE AFFECT ON AGRICULTURE. OPPONENTS SAY THEY SEND JOBS OVERSEAS. SHOULD THE U.S. SEEK EXPANSION OF FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS. >>NO, I HAVE ARGUED AGAINST FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS YEARS AND YEARS. WHEN THE MULTI NATIONAL CORPORATIONS THAT PUT THE FUNDING INTO CONGRESS PEOPLE, DEMAND A NAFTA, CAFTA, DEMAND THE FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS, IT SUCKS JOBS OUT OF THIS COUNTRY. ROSS PEROT CAUTIONED US IN 1992, SHOULD YOU PASS NAFTA, THE NEXT SOUND YOU HEAR WILL BE THE GIANT SUCKING SOUND OF JOBS BEING TAKEN OUT OF AMERICA. HE WAS PROPHETIC. HE WAS RIGHT. WITH RESPECT TO HEALTH CARE, THE MONEY IS THERE. THE MONEY IS THERE. 40% OF IT GOES TO PEOPLE LIKE WILLIAM MC GUIRE, RETIRED, IN 2006, $1.3 BILLION. THAT MONEY SHOULD BE PUT INTO HEALTH CARE. YOU TAKE IT BACK FROM THE MC GUIRE AND PUT IT INTO PEOPLE'S HEALTH CARE. WE HAVE THE MONEY. IT IS A MATTER WHO IT IS DISTRIBUTED FOR AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR. >>MR. GOETTEN, YOUR THOUGHTS ON FREE TRADE. >>FREE TRADE HAS BEEN A HORRIBLE ISSUE. I AM FOR FAIR TRADE. WHEN WE LOOK AT THE ISSUE OF TRADE, HOW CAN OUR WORKINGMEN AND WOMEN IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS COMPETE WITH EMPLOYEES IN OTHER COUNTRIES WHO DON'T HAVE TO MEET THE SAME ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS, DON'T HAVE TO MEET THE SAME HEALTH STANDARDS, DON'T HAVE TO MEET THE SAME STANDARDS PERIOD. IT IS UNFAIR. BUT LET ME TELL YOU THERE IS A BRIGHT SPOT. I HAVE IN GREENE COUNTY WHAT WE PRIDE OURSELVES IN CARROLLTON AS THE LARGEST WINERY IN ILLINOIS. NOW I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S ACTUALLY TRUE, BUT THAT'S WHAT THEY SAY! (LAUGHING) THAT'S ON THE BROCHURE! BUT THE MAN WHO OWNS THAT HAS RECENTLY TOLD ME HE IS INCREASING HIS EXPORTS TO CHINA. I KNOW THAT'S SMALL. I KNOW IT IS CARROLLTON. I KNOW IT IS JUST ONE WINERY. BUT THAT OPPORTUNITY IS THERE. IN GRAFTON, IN JERSEY COUNTY, ILLINOIS, THERE IS A GROUP OF INVESTORS WHO HAVE WITH THE HELP OF SOME PEOPLE IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OBTAIN PERMITTING TO ALLOW THEM TO FISH THE INVASION CARP SPECIES WREAKING HAVOC IN THE SPORT FISHING AND ON OUR COMMERCIAL FISH NEGOTIATE THAT BASIN. THEY HAVE A PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM WITH THE CHINESE WHERE THEY ARE GOING TO FISH THAT ASIAN CARP SPECIES AND FREEZE DRY IT AND SHIP TO CHINA BECAUSE THE CHINESE USE IT AS CONSUMABLE FISH. THOSE THINGS ARE HAPPENING. WE NEED MORE OF THAT. WE NEED TO FOCUS OUR ENERGY ON THAT. BUT FREE TRADE, NO. FAIR TRADE. FAIR TRADE. >>THANK YOU. >>LET'S MOVE AHEAD TO SOME QUESTIONS ON FOREIGN POLICY ISSUES. PATRICK YEAGLE HAS A QUESTION ABOUT IRAN. >> MR. GOETTEN, RECENT NEWS REPORTS TELL OF ON GOING COVERT WAR BY UNKNOWN AGENTS AGAINST IRAN CENTERING AROUND THE NUCLEAR PROGRAM. HOW SHOULD THE U.S. APPROACH THE GROWING TENSION BETWEEN IRAN AND WESTERN WORLD OVER IRAN'S NUCLEAR PROGRAM? >> WELL, LET ME STATE AT THE OUTSET, A NUCLEAR ARMED IRAN IS ABSOLUTE NO GO AS SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN IN THE MILITARY SINCE 1999, AS SOMEONE WHO SERVED OVERSEAS IN AFGHANISTAN IN 2009, I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUES INVOLVED IN DETERMINING WHETHER OR NOT WE GO AND PUT BOOTS ON THE GROUND. IT IS VERY REAL TO ME. IT IS NOT ABSTRACT AT ALL. BUT THAT SAID, WE HAVE TO TAKE A DIPLOMATIC APPROACH. WE HAVE TO USE EVERY RESOURCE AVAILABLE TO US TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH DIPLOMACY, BUT WE CAN'T BE AFRAID AS THE UNITED STATES TO SAY THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE CAN'T HAVE THE IRANIANS CLOSING DOWN THE STREETS SO 20% OF THE WORLD'S OIL GETS CHOKED OFF. IN A TIME WHEN I AM TALKING TO VOTERS IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND WORKINGMEN AND WOMEN IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, FOUR DOLLAR GAS, PEOPLE WITH MARGINAL DISCRETIONARY INCOME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW THEY GET TO AND FROM WORK OR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR WORK FOR THAT MATTER TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW THAT HAPPENS T DOESN'T HAPPEN IF THE STREETS ARE CLOSED. ALL OF A SUDDEN WE GET A SPIKE TO SIX DOLLARS, THAT CANNOT HAPPEN. BUT NUCLEAR ARMED IRAN IS ABSOLUTELY SOMETHING WE CAN'T STAND BY. >>DR. GILL YOUR RESPONSE. >>I'D LIKE TO START BY THANKING MR. GOETTEN FOR HIS SERVICE. YOU MENTIONED YOUR SERVICE, I TRULY APPRECIATE THAT. >>THANKS. >>SINCERELY. I TAKE CARE OF A LOST VETERANS AND I ALWAYS TAKE PAINS TO THANK THEM. THERE IS NOTHING MORE NOBLE. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT, MATTHEW. >>WITH AYE RAN NO MORE COMPLEX POLICY SITUATION IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW. ALL THE OPTIONS APPEAR TO BE BAD AT THIS POINT. THERE IS NOT A GOOD OUTCOME THAT ONE CAN ENVISION. WE CERTAINLY CAN'T ALLOW IRAN TO HAVE ACCESS TO NUCLEAR WEAPONRY. THE RAMIFICATIONS OF HAVING ISRAEL ATTACK IRAN WITH OR WITHOUT OUR INVOLVEMENT ARE ALSO POTENTIALLY DISASTROUS. AND SO THERE IS A LOT OF FACTORS THAT GO INTO THE EQUATION. AT THIS POINT, I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT EXHAUST EVERY OPTION, AND CRIB LING ECONOMIC SANCTIONS. ANOTHER IMPORTANT FACTOR AS WE LOOK AT IRAN AND WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO WITH IRAN, IS AGAIN, HOW MANY FACTORS GO INTO A CONGRESS PERSON'S DECISION MAKING PROCESS. IF YOU ARE FUNDED BY THE OIL COMPANIES, IF YOU ARE FUNDED BY THE WAR MAKERS, WEAPONS MANUFACTURERS, THEN THAT'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER VARIABLE THAT IS THROWN INTO THE EQUATION. MYSELF, AS SOMEONE WHO IS FUNDED BY ORDINARY CITIZENS, AND WE HAVE ISSUED A CHALLENGE TO MY REPUBLICAN OPPONENT AND DEMOCRAT OPPONENT TO FOLLOWING ME AND MAKING THE PLEDGE TO SWEAR OFF ANY AND ALL CORPORATE DOLLARS AND WALL STREET BANK DOLLARS. WHEN A CANDIDATE DOES THAT, THEN CAN YOU WEIGH OPTIONS IN IRAN HONESTLY, WITH REGARDS TO HAVING THINGS TURNOUT GOOD FOR PEOPLE HERE AND OVERSEAS. >>THANK YOU. SINCE YOU BROUGHT IT UP, MR. GOETTEN, DID YOU WANT TO COMMENT ON DR. GILL'S CALL FOR A NO CORPORATE MONEY PLEDGE THIS. >>I WILL MAKE THIS PLEDGE, EVERYTHING I DO WILL BE TO THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE OF CENTRAL ILLINOIS, AND THAT'S THE ONLY PLEDGE THAT I AM GOING TO SIGN. DAVID, IF YOU WANT TO PUT THAT ONE TOGETHER, I WOULD HAPPILY SIGN IT RIGHT HERE TONIGHT. >>THANK YOU. OUR NEXT QUESTION COMES FROM JILLS DISIS OF THE "DAILY ILLINI". >>DR. GILL, OVER THE WEEKEND, A AN AMERICAN SOLDIER IN AFGHANISTAN KILLED 16 AFGHAN CITIZENS IN ALLEGEDLY UNPROVOKED ATTACK. U.S. GOVERNMENT SAID OFFICIALS SAID IT WAS ISOLATED INCIDENT AND PRESIDENT OBAMA EXPRESSED CONDOLENCES. AFGHAN CONDEMNED THE ATTACKS AND MILITANT GROUPS HAVE RELEASED ANTI AMERICAN STATEMENTS. HOW DO YOU THINK THE U.S. SHOULD BEST RESPOND TO THIS INCIDENT, AND WHAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP WITH AFGHANISTAN DO YOU THINK THE U.S. GOVERNMENT SHOULD STRIFE FOR? >> EVEN BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST WEEKEND, AND EVEN BEFORE THE KORAN EPISODE BURNING OCCURRED THREE OR FOUR WEEKS AGO,I HAVE BEEN SAYING A LONG TIME, WE SHOULD BE EXITING AFGHANISTAN, WE SHOULD BE OUT OF THERE. OUR PRESENCE THERE NO LONGER HOLDS ANY MEANING FOR US. ONCE UPON A TIME, A LONG, LONG TIME AGO WHEN IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE WHEN THE MISSION WAS TO APPREHEND THE PERPETRATORS OF 911, I SUPPORTED THE INITIAL INVASION, BUT THAT WAS 12 YEARS, 11 YEARS, THE PERPETRATOR HAS BEEN KILLED. I DON'T THINK OUR ON GOING PRESENCE THERE IS MAKING LIFE SAFER FOR HERE IN ILLINOIS 13, AND PROBABLY NOT ANYBODY IN AFGHANISTAN. I UNDERSTAND PRESSURES BROUGHT TO BEAR. BUT ALONG THE WAY, THE OFFICIAL INS WASHINGTON REALLY BECAME CONFUSED, IF YOU WILL, WITH REGARDS TO MUDDYING UP, MIXING UP AL QAIDA AND TALIBAN AND TURNED INTO A MISSION NATION BUILDING EXERCISE, AND I THINK OUR NATION HAS NEEDS HERE, AND I THINK IF WE ARE GOING TO BE ENGAGED IN BUILDING, THERE IS A LOT OF INFRASTRUCTURE CRUMBLING HERE IN THE UNITED STATES THAT WE OUGHT TO BE FOCUSED UPON. SO FOR A LONG TIME, I HAVE SAID WE NEED TO EXIT AFGHANISTAN. >>THANK YOU. MR. GOETTEN, YOUR RESPONSE. >>IN 17999, I JOINED THE ILLINOIS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, AS ENLISTED PERSON, I WENT TO BASIC TRAINING AT FORT LEONARD WOOD, MISSOURI, PROBABLY EVEN WITH MY TIME IN AFGHANISTAN, PROBABLY THE MOST MISERABLE NINE WEEKS OF MY LIFE. IN 2005, WHEN MY INITIAL SERVICE OBLIGATION WAS UP, I TOOK A COMMISSION AS A LEGAL OFFICER IN THE ARMY. I DIDN'T THINK WHEN WE WENT INTO IRAQ THAT WAS THE RIGHT ANSWER. I DIDN'T THINK WHEN WE WENT INTO AFGHANISTAN THAT WAS THE RIGHT ANSWER. WE ARE ATTACKED. I THOUGHT WE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A DIFFERENT TACT. WHEN MY COUNTRY CALLED ME TO SERVICE, I WENT. THE ISSUE IN AFGHANISTAN IS COMPLEX. THE ISSUE WITH, WITHDRAWING TROOPS IS COMPLEX. WE PUT OUR MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN ARMS WHEN WE WITHDRAW THEM TOO RAPIDLY. WE HAVE A SITUATION OVER THERE THAT JUST LOGISTICAL, FOR INSTANCE, THE 33RD BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM FROM RIGHT HERE IN CHAMPAIGN URBANA, IT TAKES NEARLY A MONTH TO MOVE 2500 SOLDIERS FROM WHERE WE TRAIN HERE IN THE STATES OVER TO AFGHANISTAN. IT IS NOT A SITUATION WHERE YOU CAN RAPIDLY WITHDRAW. IT IS A SITUATION THAT WE DO NOT WANT TO DESTABILIZE IN AFGHANISTAN FOR THE SAFETY IF, NOTHING ELSE, FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR OWN TROOPS OVER THERE. IT IS A HORRIBLE TRAGEDY WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK. DAVID AND I WERE DISCUSSING IT BEFORE WE CAME ON. I FEEL FOR THE FAMILIES OF THOSE VICTIMS, BUT WHEN YOU PUT A SOLDIER IN A RAPID DEPLOYMENT CYCLE, WHEN YOU PUT A SOLDIER IN AN OP TEMPO, SOLDIERS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE IN, AND THEN YOU PUT THEM IN AFGHANISTAN, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN ANTICIPATED. IT WAS EXACERBATED BY THE KORAN BURNING. I WOULD CAUTION ABOUT A RAPID WITHDRAWAL, BUT I AGREE THAT WE NEED TO BE OUT OF AFGHANISTAN. >>THANK YOU BOTH. >> LET'S GO TO ANOTHER QUESTION BACK TO PATRICK YEAGLE ON MILITARY POLICY. >>DR. GILL, PRESIDENT OBAMA NOUNSED LAST MONTH A PLAN TO SHRINK THE MILITARY, CANCEL WEAPONS PROGRAMS AND SHUT DOWN BASES TO SAVE MONEY. DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THIS APPROACH? WHAT ROLE SHOULD THE U.S. MILITARY PLAY ABROAD? >> AGREE WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PLAN. AS I INDICATED EARLIER, IF YOU WANT TO APPROACH A 15 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT, YOU NEED TO REIGN IN. THIS IS A RESPONSIBLE REINING IN. I DON'T THINK THE STEPS MADE BIT PRESIDENT MAKE ANYBODY HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS ANY LESS SAFE, I AGREE WITH THE PRESIDENT WITH REGARDS TO THAT. >>MR. GOETTEN, YOUR RESPONSE. >>THANK YOU. SO THE UNITED STATES SPENDS 42% OF THE WORLD'S MILITARY BUDGET, 42% OF THE ENTIRE WORLD'S MILITARY BUDGET. IS THERE ROOM THERE TO CUT BACK? YES, BUT THE BROKEN CONGRESS, THE CONGRESS THAT CONGRESSMAN TIM JOHNSON HAS BEEN A PART OF, FORCED DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO SWALLOW HALF TRILLION DOLLAR POISONOUS PILL WHEN THE SUPER COMMITTEE FAILED TO COME TO AN AGREEMENT ON THE BUDGET. >> I THINK THAT'S IRRESPONSIBLE. I THINK IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MILITARY CUTS, THERE ARE WAYS TO DO IT. LEON PANETTA SAID, CAN WE CUT? YES. CAN WE CUT THAT MUCH? IT IS GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT. I WANT EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM TO REMAIN SAFE. I THINK I AM PROUD OF MY MILITARY SERVICE. I AM PROUD OF MY MILITARY. I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY, BUT, YES, IS THERE ROOM TO CUT AND THE SPECIFIC CUTS THAT THE CONGRESS IS GOING TO HAVE THE DOD TAKE, I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. BUT IF WE CUT THE PROGRAMS, AND WE TAKE TO BORROW TWO OF YOUR TRADE, DAVE, IF WE TAKE A SCALPEL INSTEAD OF A SLEDGE HAMMER TO IT, I THINK IT CAN BE DONE IN A RATIONALE WAY. >>THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWER. LET'S GO TO QUESTIONS ON DOMESTIC ISSUES. WE HAVE ALREADY HEARD SOME DISCUSSION ABOUT HEALTH CARE ISSUES TONIGHT, BUT NOW A SPECIFIC QUESTION FROM ALLISON PETTY. >>SINCE DR. GILL, SINCE PRESIDENT OBAMA SIZED THE AFFORDABLE CARE ABILITY IN 2010, MANY CALLED IT IMPERFECT LEGISLATION. SOME CRITICS SUGGESTED IT DIDN'T GO FAR ENOUGH TO FIX SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS IN THE INDUSTRY, OTHERS SAID IT WAS TOO INTRUSIVE ON PEOPLE'S FREEDOM OR CREATED UNDUE BURDEN ON SMALL BUSINESSES. IF YOU WERE ELECTED, WOULD YOU PUSH FOR ADDITIONAL HEALTH CARE REFORMS AND OR ANY REPEAL OF MEASURES THE LEGISLATURE ENACTED? PLEASE BE SPECIFIC. >>AS I INDICATED BEFORE, I DON'T THINK IT WENT NEARLY FAR ENOUGH. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF GOOD PIECES TO THE ACA, ALLOWING YOUR CHILD TO STAY ON YOUR POLICY UNTIL HE TURNS 26 AND TRY TO DO AWAY WITH THE PREEXISTING CONDITIONS THING WHERE THEY KEEP YOU OUT OF THE INSURANCE POOL. ALTHOUGH, FRANKLY, INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE ALREADY TAKING STEPS BEHIND THE SCENES TO DEAL WITH THAT AND MAKE SURE THEY GET THEIR MONEY OUT OF THE SYSTEM. AS I INDICATED, THAT BILL, THAT WAS WRITTEN BY A MAN WHOSE FUNDED FOUR MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE WELL POINT INSURANCE COMPANIES, ONE OF THE FIVE BIG INSURANCE COMPANIES. THAT'S WHAT YOU GET. YOU GET SOMETHING NOT SATISFACTORY FOR THE AMERICAN PEEL. THERE WILL STILL BE A LOT OF PEOPLE HURTING IN THIS COUNTRY. AND THAT'S, YOU KNOW, THIS REALLY IS A BATTLE FOR THE HEART AND SOUL OF THIS PARTY. WHEN I LISTEN TO MR. GOETTEN PLEDGE HE WILL DO ALL GOOD THINGS FOR PEOPLE. SO DID SENATOR MAX BAUCUS, THEY ALL SAY THEY PLEDGE TO DO GOOD THINGS FOR PEOPLE. YOU WILL DO GOOD THINGS FOR PEOPLE, YOU ASSUREDLY YOU WILL DO GOOD THINGS WHEN YOU ARE FUNDED BY PEOPLE. WE NEED A NATIONAL HEALTH CARE PLAN. WE NEED SINGLE PAYER AND APPROVED MEDICARE FOR ALL PLAN. I TELL A STORY ABOUT 39 YEAR OLD WOMAN I TOOK CARE OF YEARS AGO, SUSAN, CAME INTO MY ER, IN CARDIAC ARREST, AND WE TRIED TO RESUSCITATE HER. SHE DIED. THE SON BROKE DOWN CRYING, AND SAID A WEEK EARLIER THERE WAS AT ANOTHER EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, SHE HAD CHEST PAIN. THEY SUGGESTED SHE BE ADMITTED, WORKED UP AND HAD A STRESS TEST. SHE HAD A TYPE OF JOB LIKE SO MANY OTHERS IN THIS COUNTRY DO, DON'T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND SAID WE BETTER GO HOME. NOW HERE A WEEK LATER STONE COLD DEAD IN FRONT OF ME. ONLY IN AMERICA. EVERY OTHER WESTERN NATION HAS HEALTH CARE PLAN THAT DOESN'T LET EVERYONE OUT OF 12 DIE. WE CAN'T TOLERATE PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON D.C. THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM ANY MORE. >>THANK YOU. MR. GOETTEN? >> I UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM TO BE AFFORDABLE CARE, AND I UNDERSTAND THAT THE LEGISLATION THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. I WON'T DISAGREE WITH DAVID. I LOOK INTO THE SECOND ROW THERE, MY DAUGHTER, I THINK SHE IS FALLING ASLEEP, JUST TURNED 13, MY SON, 16, I LIKE THE FACT, BOY, I KNOW YOU WILL NOT MOVE OUT OF THE HOUSE EVER. I LIKE THE FACT I CAN KEEP YOU ON TRI CARE UNTIL YOU ARE 25. AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A JOB, MAN! (LAUGHING) BUT I LIKE THAT. I LIKE THAT PREEXISTING CONDITIONS ARE NO LONGER WILL PRECLUDE YOU FROM BEING COVERED. I LIKE THAT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY CAN'T BOOT YOU OFF OF THE POLICY AS EASILY FOR USING UP A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF YOUR COVERAGE. BUT IT IS AN IMPERFECT FIX, AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE WORKED ON. I WANT TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT. I WANT TO BE A PART OF THAT PROCESS, AND THAT'S WHY I AM RUNNING FOR CONGRESS. >>HOW SPECIFICALLY WOULD YOU WORK ON IT OR WHAT SPECIFICALLY WOULD YOU >>I HAVE CONCERNS CURRENTLY AS FORMER SMALL BUSINESS OWNER MYSELF, AND, AGAIN, SOMEONE WHO EMPLOYED LESS THAN 30 PEOPLE, HOW IS THAT GOING TO AFFECT HOW IS THAT GOING TO AFFECT THE BUSINESS CLIMATE? I AGREE WITH DAVID THAT WE NEED TO GET TO A POINT IN THIS COUNTRY WHERE HEALTH CARE IS REASONABLE, AND, BUT IT CAN'T BE ON THE BACKS OF WORKINGMEN AND WOMEN IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, AND THAT'S WHAT I SEE HAPPENING WITH THIS CURRENT BILL. >> THANK YOU. >> LET'S GO BACK TO PATRICK YEAGLE. >> MR. GOETTEN, PRESIDENT OBAMA'S RECENT PROPOSAL REQUIRING PRIVATE HEALTH INSURERS TO COVER BIRTH CONTROL PILLS WITHOUT RAISING PREMIUMS SPARKED CONTROVERSY OFFER WHAT SOME CALL ATTACK ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. DO YOU BELIEVE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURE EARNS SERVING RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD COVER BIRTH CONTROL? >> I THINK THE COMPROMISE THAT THE PRESIDENT REACHED WAS THE RIGHT ONE AS A CATHOLIC MYSELF AND ALSO SOMEONE WHO THINKS THAT THIS IS AND EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ISSUE, AS I LOOK AT MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER IN THE FRONT ROW THERE. I WAS OUTRAGED WHEN I TURNED ON THE TV AND THEY ARE SHOWING THE PICTURE OF FIVE MEN DEBATING CONTRACEPTIVE ISSUES. FIVE MEN DEBATING I THINK THEY WERE ALL REPUBLICANS, MAYBE I AM WRONG! ALL DEBATING THE CONTRACEPTIVE ISSUE. WHEN I AM IN CONGRESS, EVERYONE WILL HAVE A SEAT AT THE TABLE, ESPECIALLY WOMEN WHEN IT COMES TO THAT ISSUE. >>DR. GILL? >> I WOULD SAY, OF COURSE, THAT ORAL CONTRACEPTION SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ALL WOMEN IN THIS COUNTRY UNDER THAT TYPE OF INSURANCE PROGRAM. MORE IMPORTANTLY, WE HAVE BEEN HAVING SOME BACK AND FORTH WITHIN OUR CAMPAIGN AND MR. GOETTEN'S CAMPAIGN OVER THESE LAST SEVERAL DAYS WITH REGARD TO THIS ISSUE AND SIDE ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. I AM SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE A THE LOT OF VOLUNTEER WORK WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD. I AM SOMEONE WHO I DESCRIBE MYSELF AS BEING 100% PRO CHOICE. THE WAR ON WOMEN HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 39 YEARS NOW SINCE ROE VS. WADE GOT PASSED. STATE BY STATE, LAST YEAR TEN BILLS IN THE CONGRESS, CONSTANTLY, THESE MEN, FOR THE MOST PART, ARE CHIPPING AWAY AT A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT TO DO WITH HER BODY, WHETHER TO HAVE ABORTION OR HAVE ACCESS TO BIRTH CONTROL. A TRUE DEMOCRAT NEEDS TO STAND UP. IT IS THE REPUBLICANS, TIM JOHNSON, JOHN BOEHNER, AND GEORGE BUSH WHO HAS TURNED THIS INTO A WAR. IF NOT THE DEMOCRATS, WHO WILL STAND UP FOR A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE AND WOMAN'S RIGHT TO HAVE ACCESS TO APPROPRIATE CONTRACEPTION. I HAVE DELIVERED HUNDREDS OF BABIES. I HAVE WITNESSED IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, DOZENS OF MISCARRIAGES. I KNOW A LOT ABOUT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH. WHAT I KNOW BEST OF ALL IS THAT IT IS A WOMAN'S DECISION. IT SHOULD BE A WOMAN'S DECISION, AND WE MUST DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO DEFEND THAT. >>DAVID, I DON'T DISAGREE ON THAT, AND THAT'S THE ISSUE, ISN'T IT? WE DON'T DISAGREE, WHEN I AM OUTTALKING TO PEOPLE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND I AM TALKING ABOUT JOBS AND I AM TALKING ABOUT JOB CREATION, THAT'S WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. YOU AND I SIMPLY DON'T DISAGREE. >>I WAS CALLED A LIAR YESTERDAY BY YOUR CAMPAIGN, AND I AM NOT SURE WHY. BUT WE DO DISAGREE, MATTHEW. I CONSIDER MYSELF 100% PRO CHOICE. YOU WERE QUOTED IN AN ARTICLE IN JULY, SPRINGFIELD NEWSPAPER SAYING YOU ARE A PRO CHOICE CATHOLIC WHO ALWAYS CHOOSES LIFE. YOUR CAMPAIGN MANAGER ON FEBRUARY 29 USED THE SAME QUOTE IN DESCRIBING YOU TO JIM MEADOWS OF W.I.L.L. THAT'S CODE THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO HAVE IT BOTH WAYS WHEN YOU TALK LIKE THAT. WHEN YOU REFUSE TO SEND IN A QUESTIONNAIRE TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD, THAT'S NOT CONSISTENT WITH 100% PRO CHOICE. WHEN YOU QUOTE IN DECATUR NEWSPAPER TWO WEEKS AGO, WHEN ASKED ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL AND ABORTION, AND YOU SAY I AM HESITANT TO ADDRESS THOSE ISSUES, THAT'S NOT 100% PRO CHOICE AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. THAT'S NOT THE TYPE OF STANDING UP FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES I THINK WE NEED TO SEE INTEREST TRUE DEMOCRATS. YOU MENTIONED SEEING THE FIVE MEN AT THE HEARING IN CONGRESS, THERE WAS AT LOT OF THAT GOING ON OVER THE LAST SIX OR EIGHT WEEKS. WHEN THOSE ISSUES CAME UP ON OUR CAMPAIGN WEB SITE, ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGES, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT IT. AND WE WERE BLASTING THE PEOPLE THAT WERE ENGAGED IN THAT TYPE OF BEHAVIOR. IN VIRGINIA, THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT INSERTING ULTRA SOUND TRANSDUCERS INTO WOMEN'S VAGINAS, NEEDLESSLY. THAT'S ATTACK, THAT'S A THREAT, THAT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL OF WOMEN. I WAS LOOKING EAGERLY FOR YOU TO STAND UP AS THOSE ISSUES TRANSPIRED OVER THE LAST SIX OR EIGHT WEEKS. I DIDN'T SEE IT. IF THAT'S THE LIE I TOLD IN CLAIMING I AM 100% PRO CHOICE AND YOU ARE NOT. I DON'T SEE IT AS A LIE. >>MR. GET HE, IF YOU COULD COMMENT, AND WE HAVE TO MOVE ON. >>DAVID, AS I HAVE BEEN SAYING AIL ALL ALONG, I DON'T THINK YOU AND I DISAGREE ON THIS ISSUE. WHEN I AM OUTTALKING TO VOTERS, I HEAR VOTERS TALKING ABOUT JOBS, JOB CREATION HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THAT'S WHAT WE ARE OUTTALKING ABOUT. THAT'S WHAT I HEAR, AND BEING RESPONSIVE TO THE VOTERS. I HEAR THEM TALKING ABOUT ATTACK ON SOCIAL SECURITY BY CONGRESSMAN TIM JOHNSON, THE ATTACK ON MEDICARE BY CONGRESSMAN TIM JOHNSON, AND THAT'S WHAT WE ARE OUTTALKING ABOUT IN OUR CAMPAIGN. >>LET'S MOVE ON TO THE NEXT QUESTION, AND IT IS FROM ALLISON PETTY OF THE "HERALD AND REVIEW.". >>MR. GOETTEN, 17% OF CHILDREN IN AMERICA ARE OBESE ACCORDING TO THE CDC. THE NEW U.S. DA STANDARDS FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES CAME OUT EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND CONGRESS DREW CRITICISM FOR PROVISION SUCH AS THE DETERMINATION, THAT TOMATO PASTE IN PIZZA CONSTITUTES A VEGETABLE SERVING. OTHERS SAID THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE NO ROLE IN TELLING KIDS WHAT TO EAT. WHAT SHOULD BE THE GOVERNMENT'S ROLE IN COMBATING CHILDHOOD OBESITY? >> I AM 100% CERTAIN PIZZA IS NOT A VEGETABLE. I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT F THE GOVERNMENT IS FUNDING SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAMS, I THINK THE GOVERNMENT CAN HAVE A SAY WHAT IS SERVED TO SCHOOL KIDS IN THEIR LUNCHES. I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE TWO CHILDREN WHO APPARENTLY I AM EITHER NOT FEEDING ENOUGH OR THEY EXERCISE TOO MUCH, BUT CHILDHOOD OBESITY IS A PROBLEM I SEE CONTINUING INTO THE FUTURE. IF WE DON'T DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. AS FAR AS THE GOVERNMENT FUNDING THOSE PROGRAMS AND SAYING WHAT CAN BE SERVED, I AM OKAY WITH THAT. >>THANK YOU. DR. GILL? >> I REALLY HAVE NOTHING TO ADD. I AGREE ON MR. GOETTEN. IT IS AN OVERWHELMING PROBLEM GETTING WORSE DECADE BY DECADE. IT IS VERY APPROPRIATE RESPONSE FOR UNCLE SAM TO STEP IN. UNCLE SAM IS FUNDING, HE OUGHT TO MAKE IT GOOD HEALTHY LUNCH. >>ANOTHER QUESTION FROM JILLS DISIS FROM "DAILY ILLINI". >>DR. GILL, WHEN PRESIDENT CLINTON SIGNED THE DEFENSIVE MARRIAGE ACT IN 1996, A FEDERAL LAW THAT DEFINES MARRIAGE AS UNION BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN AND ALLOWED STATES NOT TO RECOGNIZE MARRIAGE LICENSES FROM SAME SEX COUPLES FROM OTHER STATES. THERE WERE NO STATES THAT ALLOWED SAME SEX COUPLES TO MAYOR. SIX STATES GRANT LICENSES TO SAME SEX COUPLES. MARYLAND, NEW JERSEY AND WASHINGTON PASSED SIMILAR LAWS THAT HAVEN'T TAKEN EFFECT. WHAT ARE YOUR LAWS ON THE DEFENSIVE MARRIAGE ACT TODAY AND IS IT A USEFUL LAW? >> NO, NOT AT ALL USEFUL. IN FACT, IT IS SHAMEFUL THE DEFENSIVE MARRIAGE ACT GOT PASSED. THIS IS A KEY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIMARY OPPONENT AND I. LGBT FRIENDS SHOULD BE STOOD UP FOR. I PROUDLY STAND UP FOR THEM. THEY SHOULD BE FREE TO MARRY IN ALL STATES MANY THEY SHOULDN'T WAIT FOR LOUISIANA OR AL, ALABAMA COME IN. THIS WAS REMINISCENT IN THE 60'S WHEN THEY WOULDN'T LET A BLACK AND WHITE PERSON GET MARRIED. WE WILL LOOK BACK IN HOPEFULLY NOT TOO MANY YEARS AND SAYING WHAT WAS GOING ON BACK THERE IN 2012 WHEN THEY WOULDN'T LET TWO CONSENTING ADULT. DOMA, DEFENSIVE MARRIAGE ACT SHOULD BE REPEALED, AND I THINK CONGRESS SHOULD WORK TO PASS A BILL ALLOWING MARRIAGE BETWEEN ANY TWO CONSENTING ADULTS ANYWHERE IN THIS COUNTRY. >>MR. GOETTEN, YOUR ANSWER? >> DOMA IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL, AND I BELIEVE IT WILL BE FOUND SUCH LATER THIS YEAR, AND I LIKE DAVE, AM FOR EQUALITY. >> THANK YOU BOTH. >> OUR NEXT QUESTION COMES FROM PATRICK YEAGLE. >>DR. GILL, PRESIDENT OBAMA AND DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS WANT FUNDING TO UPDATE THE NATION'S TRANSIT INFRASTRUCTURE WITH MORE AND BETTER ROADS, BRIDGES, RUNWAYS AND RAILS. MEANWHILE, HOUSE REPUBLICANS ARE PUSHING WHAT THEY DEEM PORK BARREL. DO YOU OPPOSE OR SUPPORT MAINTAINING FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS LIKE HIGH SPEED RAIL. >>MOST DEFINITELY. I STRONGLY SUPPORT THAT TYPE OF SPENDING. AGAIN, YOU CAN CUT YOUR SPENDING IN OTHER AREAS, YOU CAN RAISE REVENUES. NOTHING WRONG WITH TAXING MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES MORE. NOTHING WRONG WITH INCREASING THE TAXES ON CAPITAL GAINS AND DIVIDENDS. WHY TIM JOHNSON AND GEORGE BUSH SAID WE SHOULD CUT IT IN HALF IN 2001 AND 2003, WHY SOMEBODY SHOULD PAY TWICE AS MUCH IN TAXES BECAUSE THEY SWEAT WHILE THEY WORK, AS SOMEBODY WHO JUST GOES OUT TO THE MAILBOX AND TAKES A CHECK OUT OF THE MAILBOX IS BEYOND ME AND BEYOND A LOT OF MY FRIENDS. THERE IS REVENUE TO BE HAD TO BE PUT IN THINGS LIKE THAT. YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT STUFF VERY IMPORTANT THERE, PATRICK. I TELL PEOPLE ALL THE TIME THERE IS NO ISSUE THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT. ALL ISSUES WILL BECOME MOOT IF WE DON'T ADDRESS GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE. WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY, OUR GRANDCHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN. I HAVE LISTENED TO RICK SANTORUM THIS WEEK, HIS DESCRIPTION WAS VIAL. GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE IS OH, SO REAL. I USED TO SAY THAT WE APPROACH THE MIDNIGHT HOUR WITH REGARDS TO IRREVERSIBILITY. SADLY WE ARE AT THE MIDNIGHT HOUR. THEY WILL BACK IN 2060, AND 2070 AND SAY WHAT WAS GOING ON THERE? WHY WERE THEY PLAYING POLITICS WHILE WE NOW, IN THE FUTURE, STRUGGLE TO FIND CLEAN WATER TO DRINK AND APPROPRIATE CLEAN AIR TO BREATHE. THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE THESE PEOPLE THAT PLAY POLITIC AND FUNDED BY BIG OIL COMPANIES, THE FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES THAT ENRICH THEMSELVES WHILE WE DESTROY OUR PLANET. >>THANK YOU. MR. GET HE, YOUR ANSWER. >>EARLIER I ADDRESSED THIS, AND, LOOK, I AM THE ONLY CANDIDATE IN THIS RACE DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN WITH A JOBS PLAN. THE FIRST POINT OF THAT PLAN IS INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT. I ADDRESSED IT EARLIER. WE CAN'T AFFORD IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS OR IN THIS COUNTRY TO LET OUR INFRASTRUCTURE CRUMBLE THE WAY WE ARE SEEING IT CRUMBLE. AGAIN, I GO BACK TO THE 255 67 CORRIDOR, I KNOW IT IS A STATE PROJECT, BUT IT RELIES ON FEDERAL FUNDING. IT IS STALLED OUT. IT IS STALLED OUT IN JERSEY AND GREENE COUNTY, SUPPOSED TO GO FROM QUAD CITIES TO ST. LOUIS. IT IS GOING TO OPEN UP I THINK IT IS GOING TO OPEN UP THE ECONOMY ON THAT SIDE OF THE STATE. AND IT IS STALLED OUT. WE HAVE TO SIMPLY FIND A WAY TO FUND THAT PROJECT. IT PUTS PEOPLE BACK TO WORK RIGHT NOW, BUT IT IS ALSO FOR OUR LONG TERM ECONOMIC STABILITY IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS. >>THANK YOU BOTH. >>OUR NEXT QUESTION WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE ON CLIMATE CHANGE. >> MAY I ADD SOMETHING. >>WE HAVE A JOBS PLAN AS WELL. MR. GOETTEN IS NOT THE ONLY CANDIDATE IN THIS RACE WITH JOBS PLAN. I MIGHT ADD, TOO, THE SERIOUS NES WHICH A JOBS PLAN CAN BE IMPLEMENTED, SERIOUS NES WHICH IT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED IS DIRECTLY RELATED WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE GOING TO PUSH FORWARD, RECEIVE FUNDING FROM CORPORATE AMERICA THAT ANOTHER NAFTA COME DOWN THE PIPES AND TAKE JOBS OUT OF THIS COUNTRY. THE WASHINGTON D.C. INSIDERS THAT HAVE INVOLVED THEMSELVES IN MR. GOETTEN'S CAMPAIGN, IF THEY INSIST THAT HE BE A PART OF ANOTHER FREE TRADE AGREEMENT, THEN IT IS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO TURN THEM DOWN. WHERE, AS ME, FUNDED BY TEN DOLLAR CHECKS IN DECATUR, I WILL BE GLAD TO SAVE DECATUR A LOT MORE JOBS BY TURNING DOWN THE NEXT NAFTA COMING DOWN THE PIPE. >>I AM OUT THERE EVERY DAY TALKING TO MEN AND WOMEN IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS ABOUT JOBS, ABOUT THAT IS THE FOCUS OF MY CAMPAIGN. YOU HAVE BEEN CRITICAL OF THAT. WHEN I LOOK AT THE SUPPORTERS, MY SUPPORTERS, MY SUPPORTERS IN THE FRONT ROW HERE, THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT ME. I TAKE OFFENSE AT YOUR SUGGESTION AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS NO MERIT TO IT. >>I WANT TO TOUCHBACK ON REMARKS DR. GILL MADE BY CLIMATE CHANGE. THAT WAS GOING TO BE OUR NEXT QUESTION. FOR THE SAKE OF TIME, ALLISON, IF I COULD BRING THAT QUESTION TO MR. GET HE, YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUE, WOULD YOU SUPPORT ANY SPECIFIC MEASURES TO ADDRESS IT? >> WHEN I WENT TO LAW SCHOOL AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, I DIDN'T UNFORTUNATELY ILLINI DAD SITTING IN THE BACK THERE, OLD PROSECUTOR. UNFORTUNATELY, DAD, I DIDN'T GO TO LAW SCHOOL TO BECOME A PROSECUTOR, EVEN THOUGH THAT'S HOW IT TURNED OUT. I WENT TO LAW SCHOOL AND HAD A KEEN INTEREST IN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. OF COURSE, IT IS REAL. LIKE DAVID STATED, TO STATE OTHERWISE IS ABSURD. SPECIFIC ISSUES THAT CAN BE ADDRESSED, LOOK, IN OUR WHEN WE TALK ABOUT JOBS HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, WE TALK ABOUT ENERGY PRODUCTION, DOMESTIC ENERGY PRODUCTION. WE HAVE TECHNOLOGY NOW THAT CAN BE PUT INTO PLACE WHERE WE CANNOT ONLY WEAN OURSELVES OFF FOREIGN OIL AND ENERGY BUT DO IT IN A CLEANER WAY THAT SOME OF THESE OTHER COUNTRIES ARE DOING. WE HAVE THAT CAPACITY RIGHT HERE IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS, AND I THINK WE NEED TO LEVERAGE IT. >>THANK YOU VERY MUCH. LET'S GO TO ANOTHER QUESTION FROM JILLS DISIS. >>MR. GOETTEN, IN JANUARY, THE ONLINE PIRACY ACT, SO MANY BILLS RECEIVED CRITICISM IN ATTEMPT TO STIFLE FREE SPEECH AND INNOVATION. THE BILL WOULD HAVE ALLOWED THE GOVERNMENT TO SHUT DOWN ANY WEB SITE THAT DISPLAYED COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, IN U TUBE OR BLOG POST, WHAT HAVE YOU. PROPONENTS COMPLAIN COPYRIGHT LAWS ARE NEEDED TO REVITALIZE THE MARKETS. ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF THE BILLS LIKE THE STOP ONLINE PIRACY. >>IT NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED. IT IS VERY DELICATE AND INTRICATE. WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE INTERNET, IT NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED. CONGRESS BACKING AWAY FROM SOPA, MAYBE THE ONLY GOOD MOVE THEY HAVE MADE THE LAST 12 MONTHS AS I HAVE BEEN WATCHING CONGRESS. I HAVE SEEN THE INTERNET AS SOMETHING THAT WHEN I WAS HERE AS UNDER GRADUATE IN THE EARLY 90'S, AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, AT THAT TIME HAD ONE OF THREE SUPER COMPUTERS HERE. SO THE INTERNET WAS IN ITS INFANCY. WHEN I THINK FORWARD TO TODAY AND MY CHILDREN LEARNING ONLINE, PEOPLE SHOPPING ONLINE, WE NEED TO PRESERVE THAT. BUT SOPA, TO USE A PROSECUTOR TERM, YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO PROVE BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT THAT SOMEBODY WAS STEALING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AS YOU STATED SOMEONE COULD SIMPLY MAKE A BLOG POST FROM ANOTHER TERMINAL. THEY COULD SHUT IT DOWN WITH NO PRIOR NOTICE. I THINK IT WAS A HORRIBLE BILL THAT WE NEED TO BALANCE PRIVACY I AM SORRY, FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS WITH INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. THAT JUST DIDN'T DO IT. >>I HAVE A FOLLOW UP FOR YOU. SO IF YOU WERE TO BE IN CONGRESS AND TO BE TOYING AROUND THIS WITH IDEA OF PROTECTING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE THEN WOULD BE KIND OF THE SOLUTION? >> JUST HAVE TO BE A BETTER BALANCING BETWEEN WHAT IS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS THAT ARE IMPORTANT AND THAT ARE OWNED BY A PERSON VERSUS THE OPENNESS OF THE INTERNET, A SPECIFIC I GUESS I WOULD SAY, I KNOW I COME INTO MY OFFICE AND TURN THE COMPUTER ON AND THE INTERNET WORKS. FROM THAT STANDPOINT, IF YOU ARE ASKING WHAT SPECIFIC BUZZERS AND WHISTLES I NEED TO PUT ON MY MACHINE TO PREVENT THAT, I DON'T KNOW. BUT IT HAS TO BE A BETTER BALANCING ACT THAN SOP. >>TWO MINUTES, DR. GILL. >>SOPA WAS A HUGE MISTAKE, AND, OF COURSE, CONGRESS SHOULD HAVE BACKED AWAY. FACT THE CONGRESS WENT FORWARD AT ALL WITH SOMETHING LIKE THAT, WHICH IS FURTHER PROOF CONGRESS IS RUN BY THE BIG DOLLAR INTEREST. WE NEED TO FIGHT BACK. THIS HAS BEEN A 40 YEAR BATTLE WHERE THE PRODUCTIVITY GAINS IN THIS COUNTRY ACCUMULATED TO THE RICHES, NOT ONE PERCENT, ONE TENTH OF ONE PERCENT OF THE SOCIETY. THE ONES THAT RUN THE COMPANIES THAT RUN CONGRESS, AND THE POLICIES SUCH AS SOPA, TRADE AGREEMENTS WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT, HEALTH CARE REFORM, THAT DIDN'T HAVE PUBLIC OPTION, WE NEED A DIFFERENT TYPE OF CONGRESS. MR. GOETTEN, WHEN YOU WERE ASKED AT A CHRISTMAS PARTY AT CHAMPAIGN COUNTY DEMOCRATS PUT ON WHETHER YOU WOULD JOIN ME IN TURNING DOWN CORPORATE CASH AND WALL STREET CASH, YOU LAUGHED AT THE CONCEPT. YOU CAN SAY YOUR SUPPORTERS ARE HERE IN THE FRONT ROW. YOUR SUPPORTERS ULTIMATELY SHOULD YOU CONTINUE WITH THIS, WASHINGTON D.C. INSIDERS IN ASSOCIATION WITH YOUR CAMPAIGN, YOUR SUPPORTERS WILL BE SOMETHING ELSE ALL TOGETHER. >>IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SAY THAT, THEN YOU SIR, ARE WILLING TO DO OR SAY ANYTHING YOU CAN DO GET TO CONGRESS. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH CONGRESS. >>WE HAVE JUST UNDER TWO MINUTES. VERY QUICK QUESTION. THIS IS ON TERM LIMITS, AN IDEA WHICH JOHNSON, INCUMBENT HAS BEEN CRITICIZED FOR EMBRACING INVOLUNTARILY, BUT TURNING DOWN LATER ON. VERY QUICKLY, DR. GILL, WOULD YOU SUPPORT OR OPPOSE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT FOR SOME FORM OF CONGRESSIONAL TERM LIMITS? >> I HAVE STATED FOR YEARS, YES, I SUPPORT TERM LIMITS AND U.S. REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS, TO TERM LIMIT PRESIDENT, WE SHOULD DO THE SAME. MY FRIENDS SAY THE DOWN SIDE, THE UP SIDE DOWN WEIGHS THE DOWN SIDE. >> I WANT TO GIVE MR. GOETTEN A CHANCE TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION. WOULD YOU SUPPORT A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT OR OPPOSE IT FOR SOME FORM OF TERM LIMITS. >>I WOULD OPPOSE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT, NOT THAT IDEA IS FOREIGN TO ME, IN USING MY OFFICE AS AN EXAMPLE, COUNTY WIDE OFFICES, THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF INSTITUTIONAL KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU GAIN OVER SEVERAL PERIODS OF TIME, BUT THE CONSTITUTION I DON'T KNOW IF TERM LIMITS I MEAN HOW WOULD THEY BE, HOW MANY WOULD IT BE, I JUST DON'T SEE US GETTING TO THE THRESHOLD WE NEED TO GET TO EVEN HAVE THAT BE AN ISSUE. >>THANK YOU VERY MUCH. WE ARE OUT OF TIME. THAT CONCLUDES THIS DEBATE FEATURING MATT GOETTEN AND DAVID GILL, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES FOR ILLINOIS 13TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. OUR THANKS TO THE CANDIDATES, AND CAMPAIGNS, OUR PANEL OF REPORTERS AND AUDIENCE, IN THE STUDIO AND FOLLOWING ON TV, RADIO AND ONLINE. ON BEHALF OF ILLINOIS PUBLIC MEDIA, OUR THANKS TO LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF ILLINOIS FOR MAKING THIS EVENING POSSIBLE. YOU CAN WATCH THIS DEBATE AGAIN ONLINE AT WILL.ILLINOIS.EDU/ELECTION.

Case Continued: Rodney King to LaQuan McDonald

Raising the Price of Pain… Is that a lawyer in your pocket, or are you just dialing the number on the billboard? Maybe you’re going with the attorney who had a “guy” at the crime scene… or one of the legal eagles who hang outside the lock-ups? Chances are, you don’t have a lawyer in your pocket, or on speed dial–even if you are a working professional with no reason to believe you will ever find yourself in legal trouble. If you are any combination of Black, young, male, poor, gang-affiliated, orphaned, drop out, or mentally fragile, the odds of you having access to honorable, capable courtroom advocacy hover around zero. The ‘profile’ of those whose civil rights are most often violated is a person who works hard to steer clear of ‘the law’. Yet the law, in cases of civil rights violations, can repair victims & punish perpetrators even where criminal law has failed. Rodney King won a multi-million dollar civil rights suit against the City of Los Angeles–after the officers who beat him bloody on March 3, 1991 were acquitted of criminal charges (sparking the infamous King Riots of 1992). The families of Black Panthers leaders Fred Hampton & Mark Clark were awarded $1.85 million, though the Chicago Police officers who murdered them in 1969 were never charged. Used properly, civil rights law could even create a legacy for the injured parties: preventing future injustice. The head of the Invisible Institute, the group of journalists that fought to release the police dash cam video of the shooting of LaQuan McDonald, believes plaintiffs’ lawyers could devise settlements that benefit injured parties, & their communities, “I think we can be more creative about what else settlements can include in terms of reform. Beginning to think about how the settlement process can include some constructive stuff, going beyond one family or individual.” says Kalven. LaQuan McDonald’s mother & sister got a 5 million dollar settlement. Most details are “confidential”, but it’s been reported that they are receiving monthly payments–without interest–while the lawyers were paid a lump sum that was higher than the traditional 1/3. This for a case the city rushed to settle without litigation, before anyone else saw the damning dash cam video. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Attorney Michael Robbins defends the $1.8 million cut, “…it isn’t necessarily higher than usual”. Okay. The question is not only if a family can get more (or pay attorneys less), but if the lawyers care about more than quick cash. Do they consider compensation and correction? As Kalven puts it, “We’ve had any number of instances of settlements that seem designed to make the problem go away, to make a case sort of disappear without judicial or public scrutiny.” Access to honorable, competent legal counsel in times of tragedy & trauma is one of the many have-nots of the have-nots. That’s why there are so many hire-me billboards in Black neighborhoods. With more thoughtful representation by advocates who care about the injured party, the community & the overall state of abuse, pain can be transformed into power. The weapon is something Freedom Fighters before us died to obtain, Section 1863 of the US Civil Rights Act: Every person who… subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction therof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution & laws, shall be liable to the party injured… Attorney Andrew Stroth, Managing Partner of Action Injury Law, recently commissioned this reporter to engage prominent thought leaders on the powerful potential of the courtroom in the battle for African Americans’ civil rights. Hopefully you will spend a quarter hour exploring why so little has changed in the quarter century since Americans were first forced to believe their lying eyes. And what we can do about it. Christmas Special : Guest American Border Foundation : News of The Week

@SmythRadio @BrianPSmyth Christmas Special with our returning Guest American Border Foundation @FundThatWall and FundTheWall.com Join us for a special show discussing the defeat of ISIS and troop withdrawal in Syria. Also reviewing Gen. Michael Flynn hearing and the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis. "To love you as I should, I must worship God as Creator. When I have learnt to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now." #CSlewis TT I won an election, said to be one of the greatest of all time, based on getting out of endless & costly foreign wars & also based on Strong Borders which will keep our Country safe. We fight for the borders of other countries, but we won’t fight for the borders of our own! Trump Border Wall Border wall passed congress 217 - 185 and failed in Senate Senate adjourns until December 27th. TT The only way to stop drugs, gangs, human trafficking, criminal elements and much else from coming into our Country is with a Wall or Barrier. Drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of fun, but it is only a good old fashioned Wall that works! Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Introduces H.R. 7332, the Protect American Taxpayers and Secure Border Act Jackson Lee: “If enacted, the law would prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to construct the border wall. Moreover, it is a comprehensive piece of legislation that ensures that any wall that is build is paid for by Mexico; directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to make occur certain procedures that improve training of agents of the United States Custom and Border Patrol; increases the number of immigration judges; and, it directs the Secretary of DHS to take all such measures to ensure that refugees at the southern border are given humanitarian assistance.” As of Thursday evening, 143,821 people had donated $8,742,182 toward Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage’s GoFundMe campaign, titled We the People Will Fund the Wall, just a little over three days after its launch.

Parkinson's Dreams About Me

Rick Hermann has had Parkinson's disease (PD) for 20 years - 1/3 of his life. I met him at a post show discussion following a performance about PD and multiple sclerosis called "Stories from Jim and Jo". He introduced himself to me and asked if I would consider teaching a dance class for people living with PD. I did. We have been in class together ever since. When he dances I see grace, beauty, joy...sometimes I see symptoms and sometimes I don't. He is a dancer allowing me to feel what I cannot through words. I wanted others to have this opportunity so asked if I could make a film of him for the Neuro Film Festival. I hope this film opens the door for people to see and feel Parkinson's in a way they haven't before.
