Out of the shadows appeared a white rooster. There we stood there with a recorder, 20 minutes or more, but the bird just stared us down and was quiet as a rock. Dedicated to record this galo's có-có-ró-có-có, the next morning we got the fuck up -very early-, put the microphone out on the balcony and recorded all the birds around as the sun rose over the island. Sometimes it's better to hunt with a net instead of tweezers. Note from director: I think the most effective trigger to wake up is an explosion. especially when accompanied by drums. And fruit. So I made a juicy cocktail of all the above. Topped off with a Balinese Thunder Cock. Good morning!

OH What a Day! OH Ivie - Kayak Bass Fishing

Man oh man! Deric and I got out to Ivie again this past Friday and half day Saturday and what a trip it was. I don't think it's possible for me to repeat it. The Stars lined up. Thursday morning I text Deric about fishing somewhere on Friday since I had it off. We start talking and checking weather patterns and it was boiling down to Purtis (Deric was on them there) or back to Ivie. The wind was looking a good be better at Ivie so we headed there. I'm sure glad we did. Friday May 9, 2014 We get up at 5 am and head over Elm Creek for a breakfast burrito to go. Elm Creek was crowded and full. We wanted to hit the water ASAP before the PB'ers get out. No sooner that we got started then I hook up with a nice but thin 24" spawned out female. Great fight. Then within 20 min later Deric hooks up with a nice 25". 30 min later I get a 18" smallie on a frog of all things. The wildcat flew 3 ft in the air. They are such fun! Once the sun got up it slowed down a good bit. We get a few small ones and move around on the lake a lot trying some old haunts. No Luck there except some small fish in the 17 in range. As evening Started we move back to the sight of our morning success. My 1st cast in that spot and bam I hook up with what ends up being a personal best for my almost 25" 9lb. It pulled hard and fought long. I was so elated. But that's not the end of the awesome day. Not long after that and after some small fish, I was just chilling next to Deric discussing the next days plans and my line takes off. I set the hook and know I have another huge fish on. She heads to deep water like a speeding bullet. I can't turn her. She goes under my yak and makes a enormous jump on the opposite side of my yak and spits the hook. Normally that would have crushed me, but I just laughed and looked at Deric. He swears that fish that 9 I just caught look small. We keep fishing and Deric land a nice 22.5". Its dark now and we head in. Saturday, May 10, 2014 Another early wake up and we are pumped. We could not sleep knowing we were on the fish. We load up, and skip breakfast. We launch before light and nail down our spot. Very quickly Deric lands almost back to back 24 and 25 in Bass. He is not playing around today. He means business. We hold that spot for a few hours and catch a some more small fish. About 9:00 we decide to move to another hole and as soon as we arrive Deric hooks up with a 25" deep in a gnarly tree. After a good fight he pulls it in. We fish till about Noon and no more big bites come but lots of small ones. Deric best 5 for the 1.5 days was 121.25"! Vastly eclipsing my 101.25 by a mile. We all dream of a 120" stringer and the fish master did it. Congrats Deric on that record stringer. Like all west Texas lakes this one is in much need of prayers for rain. 48.5ft low with 10% water volume. I would really hate to see this fishery die. Please pray for rain for the people of west Texas. They need it. They think if we don't get a lot of rain by November Ivie will dry up.
