Rob Carter - Metropolis [final 3 minutes]

Metropolis 2013, b&w/color/sound, total running time: 8 mins 39 secs, single channel HD video Metropolis is an abridged narrative history of the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. It uses stop-motion video animation to physically manipulate aerial still images of the city (both real and fictional), creating a landscape in constant motion. Starting around 1755 on a Native American trading path, the viewer is presented with the building of the first house in Charlotte. From there, we see the town develop through the historic dismissal of the English, to the prosperity made by the discovery of gold and the subsequent roots of constructing the multitude of churches that the city is famous for. As the landscape turns white with cotton, the modern city is ‘born’— with a more detailed recreation of its more recent economic boom and architectural transformation. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in America, due primarily to the influx of the banking community, creating unusually fast architectural and population expansion. This new downtown metropolis is therefore subject to the whim of the market and interest of the corporations who choose to do business there. Made entirely from images printed on paper, the animation represents a sped-up urban planner's dream, but suggests the frailty of that dream, however stable it may seem. Ultimately, the video continues the city development into an imagined hubristic future of excessive skyscrapers and sports arenas, concluding with a bleak environmental future. It is an extreme representation of the water shortage many expanding American cities face today; however, this is less a warning than a statement of our paper-thin significance, no matter how many monuments of steel, glass and concrete we build. http://www.robcarter.net/

Fenway HD Camera - Sony HDC-910 - Canon 75x

Check out more from Fenway Park here: http://www.tomguilmette.com/wp/my-blog/archives/2794 I shoot the Red Sox for a living in HD. I enjoy working with expensive and state-of-the-art television equipment. A few people emailed me recently and asked me if I could shoot a video blog of my very expensive HD camera that I use to shoot for the networks at Fenway Park. Well, here you go! I use a Sony HDC-910 camera head with a 75x (9.5mm to 700mm zoom 1:1.7) Canon HD lens with an optical image stabilizer. The camera head new has a retail price of $94,700.00 and that does not include the viewfinder or the lens! The lens is almost as much! The camera is mounted to a large fluid head on Miller sticks. The fluid head is the Vinten Vector 70 and I would ague that this is the best hard camera pan head ever made. I brought my PMW-EX1 to work today and during my lunch break, I shot a quick video explaining the camera the best I could. I had a million other things I had to do that day. I did not spend much time on this, but this short little film should answer the questions I was asked. Keep watching until the end. I got a shot of the moon rising over the right field seats and I think you will like it. I shot this during the game a few days ago and TV color analyst Jerry Remy even stated that it was “the best shot he has ever seen on NESN” (New England Sports Network). Now keep in mind, this shot had nothing to do with baseball or sports for that matter. Go figure. I see shots like this on the Discovery channel all the time! The moon shot I added to this video was off a dvd copy of the clip. In crappy standard def. I up-converted it to 720p in Final Cut. I did not have a chance to get a HD version yet. Email me any questions. My website is http://www.tomguilmette.com

Nikon D7100 -

Nikon has always been pushing the boundaries of what is possible in their DLSRS. This past winter I had the chance to use a then unreleased camera for a few weeks...The Nikon D7100 Nikon Japan sent me an email a couple months ago about using this new camera and testing its capabilities as an action sports photographer. They were interested to see how this camera could work in a waterhousing, shooting surfing from the beach with telephotos, and everything in between. We used this camera with AquaTech Waterhousings in the surf, and from the beach with the new Nikkor 80-400 F4-5.6 VRII zoom. We also tested it with the 800mm F5.6. The camera has a couple truly unique functions.. the ability to crop in on the sensor, which also gives you a boot in FPS as well, was incredibly useful for being able to get the most out of a small and handheld setup. It made a simple 70-200 and camera a powerful telephoto for shooting from the beach with the already cropped sensor. Also, the camera has a removed optical low-pass filter, which showed incredible detail and color rendition in the images. Similar to those of the D800 which is the only other Nikon which has this option. 18. TyC Sports Branding 2012 / REEL Gráfica genérica

TyC Sports Branding 2012 / REEL Gráfica genérica

Gráfica Institucional genérica de TyC Sports 2012. -- Branding of TyC Sports Channel 2012. //////// Total package redesign for TyC Sports channel (Argentina) 2012: Sports promo packagings, "TyC Sports Presents", Beginning and End of Advertisement Space, Generic Graphic packs and "Next". This project was a redesign of the branding we had done in 2009. At that time, under the concept of "inexplicable feelings", we generate a graphic system composed of fragments and volatile fonts grouped in a "flow" that moved across the screen, being the graphic expression of feelings related to sport, difficult to explain in words. Our challenge was to create a highend system that integrates graphical, video and information and can clearly identify our screen in the channel grid. A structure that would be dynamic, synthetic and while consistent and distinct functional. Thus we designed a modular 3D support which we call "new flow", a graphic expression of the kinetics and feelings of sport. We adjusted the color palette and selected a new corporate typeface.
