Itchy Pig Records and Just Good Music PR have concocted a little something special for this year's Record Store Day on Saturday April 20th. Record Store Day is all about celebrating a love of vinyl and those independents that still stack the wax. With that in mind, we want to give one lucky person out there the opportunity to have some music released on a 12”.
The competition is basically to remix Sir Vinyl Instinct's 'Fruit Fly', an upcoming release on Itchy Pig Records that has already received the remix treatment from Saytek, Abe and Peza. The winner will have their remix added to both the vinyl and digital release. Two runners-up will have their remixes added to the digital release.
In the week building up to Record Store Day, we are going to visit five different cities across the North: Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds and our home city of Sheffield. We have chosen these five cities as they all have a rich and varied musical heritage. We will be leaving 20 USB sticks dotted around each city. On each stick will be the stems for 'Fruit Fly'. We will provide clues, which will be fairly obvious and simple, to direct people to the various locations, just like a treasure hunt. Once they are within sight, they will soon be able to spot it, as each USB stick will be attached to a balloon branded with our logos. We will also be leaving some of the USB sticks with the record stores in each city, to be given away on 20th April, Record Store Day. If you are not in one of these cities, don't worry as you can still get involved. We will be posting the stems online via a few select portals so that producers globally can get involved.
The entrants then have until 31st May to send us their remix. All the details of how to do this will be contained on the USB sticks. The winners will be announced on Monday 3rd June, the vinyl will be released on Monday 1st July and the digital release will follow on Monday 22nd July.
We've already secured some major national partners to work with us on this across all of the cities, who we will announce at the launch. As well as this, we will be working in conjunction with the local media in each of the locations to ensure we garner the maximum amount of exposure.
Record Store Day captures the imagination of people around the globe every year as they clamour to get their hands on those precious special editions and limited releases. With this competition, we are giving people a chance to become more involved than ever before.
